In his opening statement, Obama spoke of immigration having "shaped our character" and having "kept us entrepreneurial."

However, the immigrants he was speaking of came to this country legally; they obeyed the laws, they learned the language, they learned our history, took the test, and they assimilated. They were proud to become citizens, and they began the process of building their lives anew, often beginning with nothing more than the clothes on their backs, but by the sweat of their brows, they worked, earned, raised their families and lived as Americans, adopted American culture as their own.

Then, as he rambled on about Republicans not doing the job, and our "broken immigration system" (it isn't broken - the laws are not being enforced, which is his job), he segued into the reasons he was taking his illegal action.

Attempts to use election results as a basis for his illegal action by claiming "Americans are tired of gridlock," as if the election was not about repudiation of his policies, but instead was about not getting [his] "important" work done on immigration "reform." This flies in the face of the fact that the vast majority of Americans reject amnesty for those who enter our country illegally, people who are invaders and have no interest in assimilating into American culture as legal immigrants of the past have done.

As if disciplining a recalcitrant child, his scolding tone, and frown, were a bit much. This was an obvious attempt to claim his higher moral code.

Finally, he pulls the 'religion card.' Obama begins to 'quote' what he says comes from 'scripture;' but, as usual when he attempts to use scripture, he fails to give a reference, and we could only find one place that came close to what he was "quoting," but was a completely different context, and referred to nomads, not foreign nationals. This was a clear attempt to shame those of us who are Christian and reject illegal immigration.

Sorry, Obama. You lost the election. Get over it. Your move is illegal and in violation of your Constitutionally designated powers.

Based on the Republican and Conservative Reponses to this EO, not many of them play chess or know the law. One Republican suggested that they would hold up confirmation on his appointments. I hope they will be happy with Holder for two more years. Saying “our immigration system is broken" is sounding like a broken record. In order to get out of check Republicans have to bust a move on immigration.

Mass importation and welcoming of third world, uneducated, unskilled poor families.

Social services will become their path to the middle class.

Obama's EO is illegal. It's a federal offense to harbor, or aid or abet the harboring of illegal aliens in the U.S.

8 U.S. Code § 1324 - Bringing in and harboring certain aliens | LII / Legal Information Institute

That's what the GOP needs to pursue. The U.S. President does not have the authority to issue an EO that violates federal law.

By that logic the states that have legalized pot have law makers who are aiding and abetting the violation of federal law. He would have to stand in line behind hundreds of business men to get spanked for harboring illegals.

Not the same at all. Those states passed laws legalizing pot in their states. The federal government can ban whatever it wants, but the Tenth Amendment allows the states to opt out of participating in the law or assisting in enforcement in any way.

Obama didn't sign a bill enacting a law. He unilaterally dictated an EO. And an illegal one, at that.

The house had a chance 500 days ago to pass a bi-partisan immigration reform bill. Don't buy in to that legalese its just a smoke screen. This announcement is no surprise to them. They called his bluff now they have this and ACA to keep them busy for the next two years. Now they will have to cut deals with the Democrats to get anything veto –proof passed.

You're assuming that an immigration bill is necessary. It isn't.
