"SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - The number of people making appointments to apply for a California driver's license more than doubled in late November - a possible sign of high demand as the state prepares to offer licenses to immigrants who are in the U.S. illegally."
So, I wonder how many of these illegal aliens have auto insurance !
I wonder how many speak English !
In the words of Governor Jerry Brown, "Mi Casa is your Casa."
Funny, a friend of mine is an insurance broker, and she told me, after a statewide conference last month, that there has been no increase in customers seeking automobile insurance (and this includes the online insurance providers). Again, no surprises here.
The other part of the equation is how many illegals will also purchase the required auto insurance. I'm betting not many. Our insurance premiums are sky high here in California, due in part to uninsured motorists.
Fewer unlicensed, uninsured drivers on the road sounds like a good thing to me.
And we would have that if we took the right steps to rid ourselves of illegal aliens in our country. Granting driver's licenses to foreingers who don't even have a right to be in our country is unfathomable to me. That's like granting the bank robber the keys to the vault.
