The stays of deportation with work permits is a horrible idea. Enforcement and not being a magnet to illegals has to be done first by anyone who is legitimately wanting to solve the problem. Otherwise there is a vacuume created which will replace whoever got amnesty or a work permit.

The whole thing is a scam. We have the means to easily and cheaply not attract illegals, allowing most to make the rational choice to go home.

All the U.S. needs to do is enforce its immigration laws already on the books. I hate the use of the word "reform" because it is another word for amnesty. If anything, the U.S. needs to tighten its immigration policies, IMHO.

I am curious about other nations' immigration laws, such as are illegals welcome, entitled to driver licenses, free medical, free schooling for their offspring, yada-yada? I bet there is not one country that actually bends over backwards for those breaking into their countries illegally.

While I am at it, how about making English the official language of our country?

We are a melting pot no more, but rather a stir fry.

The Scandinavian countries have pretty generous welfare for "asylum seekers." But there's some backlash stirring against that over there.

I agree with everything you said.

They tried to pass an excellent bill in 2005. Unfortunately, it did not pass. Skip down to provisions, it couldn't be any better than this, everything I want is in there.
