Legalizing illegal immigrants a bad idea
Illegal immigrants: 10 things politicians aren't telling us about their immigration reform plans - chicagotribune.com

It's not just 11 million people. A substantial percentage of illegal immigrants are here alone, and once they get green cards, they will be able to petition for their wives and children to join them in the U.S. And if they become U.S. citizens, they will also be able to petition for their siblings and parents. Those migrants, in turn, can petition for their relatives and so on. Not all of the immigration preference categories are immediate, but within 10 to 15 years, legalizing 11 million migrants could result in possibly 30 million new arrivals.

I think you need to re-evaluate your time line.

1st is the naturalization process for the illegal immigrant
2nd time it takes to petition for next of kin
3rd if admitted, time for next of kin to go through naturization process.

Since it is not amnesty, there is no automatic guarantee to citizenship. The estimated 11 million will have to go through the process to be naturalized.

If a bill becomes law, lets see in 10 years how many of the estimated 11 million are going through the process and how many have become naturalized citizens...and of those how many are petitioning for next of kin.

I am tired of the word games. Anything that allows them to remain here without returning to their countries and appyling from there like legal immigants do is amnesty in my eyes regardless of any fines, requirements of learning English, etc. Why focus on the usage of words anyway as if that makes some kind of difference? Seems like more people are focused on insisting that certain words be used when it is all irrelevant anyway. I often interchange the words amnesty/legalization because it really doesn't matter if they allowed to remain here rather than being deported.

It's shamnesty. We don't NEED to legalize them. What they NEED to do is go home, and what we NEED to do is severely punish employers who hire illegals.

The implied notion you are putting forward is that the legally sponsored relative of someone that was once an illegal alien is not desirable for both quantity and quality. Legal immigration is proven to promote economic growth, from a population that pays into the system, but are unable to draw most benefits often for a minimum of five years. We hear so much of the time on this forum that legal immigration is not a problem.

Unless you want to block certain legal immigrants by their ethnicity, which returns back to my first sentence here...

8 million illegal immigrants, using false, or stolen, SS numbers, are working in, non-agriculture, on-the-books, American jobs. Only 4% of employers are presently using E-Verify. ...For every illegal immigrant working, an American isn't....Mandate, and ENFORCE, E-Verify, for ALL jobs, for ALL employees, and for any entitlement. DHS receives continuing employer/employee SS number no-match lists from the SSA. The SSA also sends out thousands of no-match letters to employers, but due to the lack of any real enforcement, by DHS, these notices are largely ignored. Make the SSA employer/employee no-match list available to the individual states, if not to the public, and we, the people will address the problem.

Alert! Mandatory E-Verify introduced in Senate, S 202!
Californians for Population Stabilization - Alert! Mandatory E-Verify introduced in Senate, S 202!
85% agree with requiring employers to verify the immigration status of potential hires.

Since the 1986 Reagan Amnesty, 5.5 million anchor babies have been born to illegal immigrants, at a cost of many 100's of billions of dollars to American taxpayers, and that is just for birth, and education. Now, in addition, there is a burgeoning birthright citizenship tourism industry, among Chinese, in America.

Alert! HR 140 would abolish birthright citizenship for illegal immigrants! Californians for Population Stabilization - Alert! HR 140 would abolish birthright citizenship!

Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-Ga.) introduced H.R. 477, which would eliminate the extended family visa categories (married sons and daughters of citizens, etc.), thus ending chain migration. H.R. 477 would reduce the annual issuance of family-sponsored visas by more than 100,000.

KEEP AMERICA STRONG ... refuse to import even more poverty ... we already have enough of our own ...

I don't understand why Obama wants a pool of 20 million unemployed vs what we have now.
