Immigration concerns take back seat
Quote:
WASHINGTON — Illegal immigration, the top issue on the minds of Iowa Republicans a week ago, receded significantly as an issue in New Hampshire, helping immigration reform champion John McCain coast to victory on Tuesday.
The Arizona senator took advantage of the shifting sands of public opinion by winning the overwhelming support of Republicans who do not see illegal immigration as a threat. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney was the choice of Republicans who would crack down on those illegally in the U.S.

Iowa: Concerned about illegals.
New Hampshire: Not so much.

I hate this whole caucus thing to begin with. Why should two states set the tone for the rest of the country?
Of course NH dosent care about illegals, there arent that many there. Now VA, NC, and TX different story.

NH is not a state that has been "invaded" by large quanities of illegal immigrants.
The states that have been so invaded though will make illegal immigration a MAJOR campaign issue for the candidates.

If you look at the polls around the nation and stats given at American Solutions dot com you'll see that over 80% of the people polled across the nation want the borders secured, no amnesty (which McCain not only voted for but wrote along with Kennedy), and basically are sick and tired of illegal immigration. Years ago only the border states were talking about it and everyone else ignored them.
Now you see individual state legislatures setting their own ordinances and laws against illegal benefits, jobs, etc. because the Feds won't do it.
Remember this is the FIRST Presidential election that illegal immigration has come to the forefront in political discussions for an election. It is has become the new political third rail and will only continue to grow.
It is because of the magnitude in which the marches in our streets finally showed the American public the consequences of letting this continue. Pete Wilson was vilified over his stance, yet when California voted they agreed with him. What happened, a judge, one man overturned the will of the people.
We have to keep beating the drum. One good thing will be if the Democrats give amnesty and they are in power, they will be knocked out of office and maybe won't get back in for years to come.
The Senate switchboard was shutdown in June on the amnesty bill and that wasn't just Republicans and conservatives. It was people across this nation of all political parties. Rahm Emanuel has actually said that the Dems are on the wrong side of this.

No its not: Here is an even newer quote from him:
It’s telling that Rep. Rahm Emanuel, the House Democratic Caucus chairman and perhaps the savviest, smartest and most pragmatic politician in Congress, is far ahead of the curve on the perils that the illegal immigration imbroglio could pose for his party this November. Speaking to the Washington Post’s columnist E.J. Dionne recently, Emanuel said, “This is a debate in which the rest of the country is left out. This is a values issue: How does a superpower not have control over its border? You have to enforce the rule of law as it relates to the border, and you have to enforce the rule of law as it relates to benefits. Then the American people will be open to resolving the issue as it relates to what industry needs and what immigrant advocates need.
Another quote within the NYTimes:
The natural allies of immigrants have been cowed into mumbling or silent avoidance. The Democrats’ chief strategist, Representative Rahm Emanuel of Illinois, went so far as to declare immigration the latest “third rail of American politics.” This profile in squeamishness was on full display at the Democratic presidential debate last week in Las Vegas, when Wolf Blitzer pressed the candidates for yes-or-no answers on driver’s licenses and Mrs. Clinton, to her great discredit, said no.
