I believe the path to citizenship is supposed to be for the parents of illegals who had children here who are US citizens. The US cannot just deport all these parents and leave thousands of minor children unattended. The loophole is that anyone born in this country is a citizen and this is currently the law. The Chinese are exploiting this now by pregnant women flying over and having their babies in the US- then they fly back to China. The kids are now US citizens.
I believe Obama would be very happy if Congress actually passed some reforms- the Republicans stymied Congress on this issue continuously.
There is no path to citizenship. It's a stay of deportation for parents here illegally that have U.S. born kids and also for other illegals who have been in this country for a long time. There is no need to deport them. Just remove all the incentives for them to remain here and they will self-deport. They can take their kids with them. Why do you think the only option is to abandon them? The Supreme Court needs to re-visit birthright citizenship and interpret it the way the writers' of it intended. They never intended for border jumpers or fly over parents to gain birthright citizenship for their kids. That fiasco is one of the incentives that brings them here and it is costly us dearly.
There is no reform needed and that isn't what is being proposed anyway. It is simply amnesty that is being proposed and that it wrong is so many ways. Who cares what would make Obama happy? What he wants isn't in our best interests.

Yeah, like THAT'S really worked out so far - with Republican business owners who want cheap labor and Democrats who want more votes. If Congress wanted to do that they could have done it DECADES AGO. They didn't THEN, they won't NOW.

Really? How do YOU know what the Founding Fathers intended? Did the voices in your head tell you that? With a continent that was largely theirs for the taking and relatively small population at the time, the Founding Fathers put NO LIMITS on immigration - NONE. It was not restricted nor even regulated. If you CAME here, you could BE here. What they would think today is ANYONE'S GUESS so unless you claim to be talking to George Washington or Thomas Jefferson in a seance you have NO CLUE what they would have thought.

Laws can and WILL be changed to make it real hard on illegal aliens and their fans. Hell; even Ireland no longer has birthright citizenship unless at least 1 parent's an Irish citizen.

Let's not forget that Bush the Second didn't do jack squat about the problem, either. Don't expect the republicants to do anything about the issue except fiddle with themselves. They're just as bad, if not worse. If we have a bush the third (ugh) a shamnasty will be rammed through. And I do mean rammed.
Uh; if someone told me in 2002 there'd be a "Black" dude as POTUS, especially with an Arab name, I'd have NEVER believed it. If that could happen; why not stopping birthright for the US born kids of 2 illegal alien parents.

Because at this point it would require a constitutional amendment, of which there is a 0% chance.
President Obama holds the superior position as usual
The President is right and this will be won in the courts. Conservatives can obstruct, but they can't win, as their free fall continues. Texas judge soiled himself and stinks with this ruling.
Thanks too to the idiot judge for delivering to the Dems, the 2016 votes of immigrants and Latinos with his ridiculous partisan ruling.

Because it would require a CHANGE IN THE U.S. CONSTITUTION. Do you have ANY idea how hard that is to accomplish - especially on such a controversial issue? You'd need to get passage by 2/3rds of BOTH the House AND Senate THEN approval by the legislatures of 3/4's of the STATES (that's 38 of them). There is NO WAY IN HELL Blue states would go along with removing birthright citizenship. There is ZERO CHANCE OF THAT HAPPENING.
