You have forgotten why they are there. All it takes a couple of educated Aztlanistas and a few posters. But do not forget the free food-- thats the only reason they're there.
I was standing in a checkout line at a grocery store and three very dark skinned Hispanic men were checking out in front of me and the cashier was trying to speak to them in english. They did not understand a word she was speaking. When my term came in line the cashier told me how much she hated illegal aliens-- like those guys. She went on to say if they were coming to our country do so legally and speak english.
The cashier assumed that because they were working class types (they were doing landscaping), were not able to speak english and were very dark skinned Hispanic Indian types, they must of been illegal aliens.
In Arizona they say if you look at a spanish speaking person who does not know english there is a seventy percent chance they are illegal.
I also assume that too, based on statistics and the lack of legal visas for working class hispanics, but who knows. What would you assume?
To assume that those who cannot speak any English are legal immigrants would say something about the problem in legal immigration standards now.
I think many are actually right in assuming those who cannot speak English are here legally -- because the standards of legal immigration need to be improved.
Immigration should be limited to those who wish to become American -- and have the ability and desire to assimilate and learn something of this country. Those who have no desire to even learn a bit of the language of this country don't need to come, they should not be given preference over those immigrants who would make some effort.

I agree with you Teatime... when you go to a country even as a tourist you shoud at least try to learn some words to get by... but I wish that was the case for thousands of Americans traveling to foreing countries every year and they still expect that people in those countries will speak to them in English.. so I guess that is something not only illegals have to learn..

Of course there's just a *little* difference when it's a tourist traveling for a few days or couple weeks and spending their American dollars in that country than when it's someone breaking the laws to be here and coming to take dollars.
