In Arizona they say if you look at a spanish speaking person who does not know english there is a seventy percent chance they are illegal.
I also assume that too, based on statistics and the lack of legal visas for working class hispanics, but who knows. What would you assume?
I work at a bank and a lot of hispanics that can't speak english have valid Virginia Id's (VA requires proof of legal presence for any ID or DL) so i can't assume they are illegal. But most illegal aliens dont speak english.
The only way we will know if someones actually illegal is if we ask them. In which they probably answer. I bet we wouldn't ask a Mexican with white skin and blue eyes if he's illegal.
OTOH: I have known Anglos with dark skin and eyes who were mistaken for Hispanic a lot.
I wouldn't assume they were illegal, but it certainly would indicate a possible red flag.
If the FBI was assigned to start routing out illegals, this is something their profilers certainly would take an interest in. It would be one of the many other traits they would profile.
My grandparents speak very little English and they are legal residents. The ones speaking English like Americans are the children of illegals (who are American citizens) and children of immigrants in general.
Agreed. There are legal immigrants that do no not speak much English.

I have no doubt that you're correct. Your hypothetical "white-skinned, blue eyed Mexican" would probably 'get a pass'. Just like American-born Hispanics sometimes DON'T get a pass. That's prejudice, and it's wrong. It makes the "illegal---legal" controversy MUCH more complicated than it should be...

If they spoke english they would probably all "get a pass".
Even so I know an illegal who was brought by his parents when they were young. White skin, blue eyes and speaks English like an average American.
