It's easy to blame. It's hard to listen and understand.
Do you think I care??

This thread was started by Synopsis as an attempt to set the rules, and not start another pro- and/or anti-immigrant thread.

I am going to temporarily close it now until Synopsis has a chance to catch up with reading the recent posts.

Thanks to all.

Thanks OTR.

People, this thread is an effort on my part to discuss encourage a sane, civil discussion on immigration, whether illegal or legal, rationally.

It is for members to read and follow.

From this point forward, you can comment on this thread, but I would hope it is a manner that is conducive to civil debate. Otherwise, infractions will be forthcoming.

Best Regards,
Synopsis

I stated this in another thread, but I think it belongs here as well.

How about this:

1) Let's stop the hate mongering towards hispanics (mainly Mexicans).
a) This means dropping the stereotypes that Latinas have 20 babies, latinos drink beer and drive drunk, steal and rape.
Start calling these people what they are: Criminals, not Hispanics.
b) Stop calling John "Juan" McCain, you may think it is funny, hispanics find it offensive.

2) Also stop lumping legals and illegals together when talking about immigration.

Deal?

How about we start flagging posts that do the aforementioned.

Let's keep discussions civil and we may actually have a consensus here.

Is it just me, or has the pro-illegal crowd again sunk to the name calling? Just today, I have read the following words used in posts:

Xenophobic
Racist
Bigots
Rednecks

Come on folks, can't you get your point across without lowering yourselves to the level of name calling? I do believe the mod asked us to keep things civil and leave out the personal attacks.

The "anti-illegal" crowd have been calling people with a different viewpoint

Illegal aliens

Unpatriotic

libidiots

Respect is a two way street , if you don't give it then don't expect others to give it to you. Just my 2 cents.

Illegal aliens is actually a legal term. It is not a slur. It defines someone's status in our country.
Unpatriotic is not exactly a slur either - it's an adjective by the way.
I have not read a single post with the term libidiots - but I can assure you I have never used the word either.

Please point me to where I have been disrespectful, since you are implying that I am not worthy of respect as I have not given it.

So you don't think the term 'bigot' is a personal attack?

I suggest you re-read the quote you are linking. Try to find the word bigot. Try to find the word personal. And try to find the word attack.

Why look for personal and attack? the word bigot, even though I've never been called it on here, is a personal attack.
