Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee called Tuesday for suspending immigration from countries that sponsor or harbor terrorists.

Hitting the campaign trail in South Carolina's Jan. 19 primary, Huckabee sharpened his rhetoric on immigration and embraced a tougher measure than any of his rivals have so far.

"There's a couple of things we're going to do differently," Huckabee told about 300 supporters in Rock Hill, shortly after arriving in the state from Michigan. "I say we ought to put a hiatus on people who come in here ... if they come from countries that sponsor and harbor terrorists."

but Hukabee also wants to give collega tuitions to illegals in Arkasas..
He says as long as an illegal has made it thru American high school.. they should get a college tuition grant.. but Any American kid who wants to go to college in Arkansas, but lives in another state.. will have to pay triple..
WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE?

Illegal.. shouldn't be here in the first place.. they KNOW he/she is an illegal but still allow them to attend school in America at the expence of the American Tax payers

Now an American kid.. who's American Parents have paid taxes.. all thier lives.. whould have to now PAY triple.. if thier AMERICAN child wanted to attend a college in Arkansas,, but lived elsewhere.. BS.

Once again.. illegal=free everything!

Many schools have had to close down programs.. because the illegals are costing American tax payers billions each year.. American kids lose out on these programs.. which were paid by Americans in the first place.. Now the money goes to the illegals... TAKE, TAKE, TAKE.. and GIVE, GIVE GIVE to the illegals..

Thing is, he's ONLY talking about legal immigrants!! This has NO bearing whatsoever on the illegals. Sure, it's not a bad idea but it's irrelevant in regards to illegal immigration.

It would be a good idea to stop all immigration from nations that sponcer or harbor terrorists. But Huckabee does have a number of views that are a concern regarding illegal immigration.

Heck, as long as we are at war we should cut off all immigration and lock down our border's and ports with the military.

It's a start but we just don't seem to get it done. Without it you can't stop illegal immigration let alone control it.

It's worthless grandstanding,

if you read the article, at his next stop he didn't even mention it.

Probably because someone finally told him what the law already says.

Quote:
No nonimmigrant visa under Section 101(a)(15) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1101(a)(15)) shall be issued to any alien from a country that is a state sponsor of international terrorism unless the Secretary of State determines, in consultation with the Attorney General and the heads of other appropriate United States agencies, that such alien does not pose a threat to the safety or national security of the United States. In making a determination under this sub-section, the Secretary of State shall apply standards developed by the Secretary of State, in consultation with the Attorney General and the heads of other appropriate United States agencies, that are applicable to the nationals of such states.
As far as immigrants, if someone in government wants to let someone in, they have exceptions to allow for that too.

What the law means, is if say Bush, wants to let in a terrorist, like he's done recently to provide safe harbor to a Cuban terrorist bomber, they can exercise the exception noted above.

What Huckabee is doing is making a splashy sounding announcement that in real life terms will mean zip as far as what will continue to transpire.

Typical grandstanding, nothing of any substance behind it.
