Your presumption that this is a bias against "Spanish" is incorrect - I don't want to speak "French" either - or "Chinese" or "Albanian" in order to get a job and make my way in the USA.

English
That is ridiculous.

The driving test for a US driver's license should be in English only.

NOTE:

If a citizen from Mexico (or any other nation) is here visiting legally; in many cases his home country DL will suffice---------otherwise; the above individual will need what is known as an international driver's permit.

English
The time has come to embrace Spanish, we have more Spanish speking people than Spain (approx. 60 million people), by far the preferred language
of study in schools other than english (appprox. 55% of students choose
Spanish in school), also Spanish has been spoken in our country for over 100
years before the first english settlements(St. Augustine, FL, the nation's oldest city precedes the pilgrims for more than 100 years), in view of all
these, why would we be amazed about the increasing presence of Spanish in our culture?

Considering that outside of Latin America and Spain; the Spanish language is not widely spoken------there is little 'need' for us Americans to embrace the above language.

OTOH: English is the lingua franca of the world (aviation, diplomacy, science, etc).

Unfourtunately, many people in our beloved country think that knowing less is better, that's why we do so poorly intellectually compared to most other countries, our best schools depend on immigrants to fill spaces.
Ultimately this type of mentality has made America a country in frank decline,
while Japan, EU, China etc. prosper.

If you think there is little "need" to learn Spanish, then tell me why many US companies when you contact them over the phone you have to press 1 for English and 2 for Spanish? Why the cable companies have increased their programs and channels available in Spanish? why many products sold locally in the US have labels with intructions in Spanish and English?
I hope you dont blame on Illegals running those companies...They happen to be US businesses that undertood how necessary has become the use of Spanish language in America.

You are so right, if you don't keep up with changes, you will be left in the dust. It is called progress

That's true but of course many do not want to see or understand that.
Most of our graduating classes cannot read or write, pretty sad for this country.

Japan: that country is extremely xenophobic-------to the point that ethnic Koreans legally born/raised there are not usually counted as 'full' Japanese, both legally and culturally speaking

EU: many language; yes------but, all of the EU nations are solid First World status unlike, say, India, Mexico, etc.

China: out of ca. 1.2 billion people; maybe 150 million are affluent.

Try again.
