Your father could make even more if the illegals didn't come in and undercut wages? Before illegals a laborer in 1991 mind you was making 9 dollars, now oh minimum wage. 5 years experience in construction in 1991 $11-13 an hour. Imagine what it would be today!!!

I don't think so. His boss doesn't hire illegals. I think he's making a little more than $33/hr mind you.

What's that you say? An employer can hire legal workers and prosper? Who woulda thunk it!

I didn't say his boss hired illegals. I said they came and drove down wages. Yea he could, if illegals never came into the picture he would be making more. Wages would have raised with the times. My husband has 24 years experience and makes $46 an hour ( if you break his salary down.) he is a PM running huge commercial jobs. Times say he should be at $60 an hour. Which is about $115,000.00 a year. Not much in these times.

Wages have been driven down in many work areas yet prices are rising. My mom started retail in 1973 at $2 an hour, when she left 33 years later she was pulling in $13 as a manager. Wages are affected. Now retail and fast food will start you at minimum wage which in some states in $5.65 an hour.

Funny you should say. minimum wages have only been going up here in California despite our large illegal population.

Show me an instance of the minimum wage being decreased, and then your post will have merit.
