I've been here in the Minneapolis area for the past 7 months working and have seen a lot of illegals waaaay up here as well. Many employed in customer service positions and have a hard time conversing in English.

The draw is Free..
free everything without having to prove legal statis.
Other states are now throwing thier illegal butts out. so...
Then word gets around.. where can we go next.. what states
are still giving without asking legal statis?
For those who become legal.. for those who went thru the legal
process, for those who DO learn English, for those who did take the
"allegiance Pledge".. I applaud you all!

Yet; so many US born/raised Americans of recent Mexican heritage still sound like recently arrived foreigners.
That's pretty simple to answer.. NO RESPECT, NO intent or want of assimilating, Can't comprehend our English language, Find no need to learn English because of all the help given to them in spanish in the first place.

Well someone said in this forum that illegals are going everywhere desirable. That has to be the case if they are popping up in VA or MD.

High SPrings Gator...parts of Maryland and Virginia, especially around Washington, D.C. and Richmond, also some portions of the Baltimore area (exlucding the city itself) are seeing a lot of growth. Its the same reasons why illegals flock to Las Vegas, Phoenix and Orlando because there are a LOT of jobs in construction as new housing developments are being built. Loudon COunty, Virginia, where Dulles International Airport is located, is one of the fastest growing in America. Wherever you see a new shopping center, office park or subdivision built its always illegals doing the construction.

Agriculture here also hires some illegal migrants. Maryland, especially in the Eastern Shore is an important region for poultry farming. Once I wrote to my local Congressional representative, Barbara Mikulski (D, Baltimore I believe) about how we need more laws regarding illegals and to promote immigrants Americanizing....she actually wrote back and said how the crabbing and fishing business uses a lot of "immigrant workers" and how this is vital to our economy.

So I guess High Springs is in Florida?

I would stop spending money there. If they couldn't converse and they looked from sob, they're probably illegal.

i went to a mcdonald's and was trying to order a coke float (eventually by trying to order the coke separately and the ice cream separately) and wound up with a glass of ice. i certainly understand the frustration.....

Anytime I go to a restaurant or store with non-English speaking people in a customer service role, I write a letter to that store letting them know that I will not do business there again. Typically I get a standard 'form' letter in return but I think it's important to do this. We can choose where to spend our dollars. Fast food is bad anyhow and I can wash my own car.

We very rarely eat out anymore because most restaurants in this area are filled with illegals. Service and quality have really suffered and I refuse to pay for it anymore.

I really don't know what the hell you guys are talking about with this "I don't know what the hell these people are saying." I've been through fast food restaurants all my life in several states and have NEVER dealt with someone who didn't speak sufficient English to get my order. Yes I cracked up a few times by the sound of "Welco tu yack-ina-bo can I hel you?" but I was still able to get my order across

ArizonaBear, I'm really not sure. A lot of Asian immigrants were educated ot begin with and already knew how to speak English. I can't say for most Asians but I grew up very American. Though its somewhat changing unfortunately, the Asian community seems to be less intent on pressuring its members not to assimilate. A lot of Central Americans, Indians, and Muslims often try to reject assimilation. I've gotten my share of negative comments from people of immigrant backgrounds for being too "American".

Also about Mexicans, so many places "se habla espanol" that it lessens their incentive to learn English if they feel they can get around speaking only Spanish.
