Until Mexico gets its own house in order; they have little to say that is worth listening to.

SOB needs to earn our respect.

I live in DFW and Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert seems to be an intelligent, thoughtful man but I have to say this is a HUGE mistake on his part. I did not read all of the article, however, so I could be wrong about this.

Why not just merge Mexico and Canada with the United States and get it over with already? You know, just like the EU. Plenty of room in the Great White North and we can always go to Mexico for vacation.

Besides, the Mexican/Guatemalan border will be easier to secure.

For the record: as new nations applied for EU membership; they needed to reform their legal systems as well as get their finances in order first.

Take Spain; a 'Hispanic' country (barely these days), once Madrid got a serious handle on its many problems.........Spain was rewarded with not only EU membership, they also received the right to use the Euro and unfettered access (no checkpoints at all) to the rest of the EU via the Schengen Agreement.

BTW: Spain's per capita income is above $33K a year------almost three times that of both Mexico (mostly Mestizo/Indian) and Argentina (97% White). The USA and Ireland both have per capita incomes well above $45K------not so terribly long ago, Ireland was about as poor as Mexico.
