“This has been turned into some sort of ideological battle when all it should be is a jobs issue,” Brien said about his E-Verify plan requiring private businesses to sign statements pledging that all employees are in the country legally. A violation could result in a criminal penalty of up to one year in jail for the employer.

Brien, who worked with the Secretary of State to craft the proposal, says he doesn’t understand the criticism.

“To say you shouldn’t have to show a voter ID at the polls is absolutely counterintuitive,” he said. “If I open up a Hollywood Video account, I have to show a picture ID… This is one of the most sacred rights we have as Americans.”

The bills are not directly related, according to their sponsor, Rep. John D. Brien, D-Woonsocket, but each has drawn sharp opposition from immigrant advocates such as the Rhode Island Affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union and the Commission for Human Rights.
“This has been turned into some sort of ideological battle when all it should be is a jobs issue,” Brien said about his E-Verify plan requiring private businesses to sign statements pledging that all employees are in the country legally. A violation could result in a criminal penalty of up to one year in jail for the employer.
The proposal was approved on an 11-to-3 vote by the House Labor Committee and appears headed toward passage by the full House of Representatives, as has a similar proposal the last two years. To become law, however, it would require the approval of the Senate as well, where it has consistently stalled amid concerns by Senate leaders.
The ethnocentric racists are determined to undermine the rule of law in favor of their illegal alien constituency at every turn. The (Illegal) Alien Civil Liberties Union really needs to apply for a name change. What they do and who they represent has absolutely nothing to do with America or Americans.

Hopefully it will pass in the Senate. Thanks for that good news anti

“One of the worst policy changes we could make as a state in the current economic environment would be instituting this proposal or proposals quite similar,” reads a statement issued by Chamber of Commerce Coalition coordinator David R. Carlin III
What can we expect from the IA Chamber of Commerce? Of course they object to anything that would impede cheap illegal labor.

I've often wondered how low vampires keep their thermostats set. I'm sure someone in congress or a corporate master would be able to tell me.

No doubt. It's surprising they can even leave their homes during daylight.

It is 100% acceptable to show ID at the polls. In fact, this is often used instead of actual voters registration cards at the polls. Since I carry my drivers license with me at all times, this is 100% justifiable.

BTW for those of you who don't drive, you can still get state IDs at drivers license centers.

As a note, the Southern Poverty Law Center of Montgomery, AL doesn't like NumbersUSA. SPLCenter.org: The Puppeteer

According to the SPLC NumbersUSA is one of several subsidiaries of John Tanton's immigration reduction campaigns. SPLC says that there is cooperation between Tanton's groups and White supremacist groups.

To my knowledge Tanton has not sued the SPLC for libel, nor has he gotten a conviction, so I would imagine that what the SPLC is saying about Tanton is true.

Are there any non-Tanton grassroots anti-illegal immigration organizations that any of you would recommend?

Even if there was a connection so what.
ACORN has some obvious questionable connections. All large groups do. Unfortunately that happens.
NRA- no doubt has quite a few members who are also members of Militia groups.
ASPCA- No doubt as some attachments to questionable groups like PETA.
If its doing a valid service I wouldn't shy away from numbers USA
