If 'blame' is what you're concerned with, what about the Texas Republican who killed the fence?
.
..

I live in Texas, just what Texas Republican are you talking about ? The fence is STILL being built in Texas....

Is that meant to be an idiom of some kind?

Probably Kay Bailey Hutchinson, infamous for her recent Amendment that gutted the $3 billion from this year's budget bill....

What similarities?

Those in East Germany who would seek a better life in West Germany were held in by their own government. The countries providing illegal immigrants are not being held by their own governments. Indeed, the Mexican government encourages illegal immigration into the US.

Call me naive and idealistic, but I don't believe in this kind of problem-solving. It's somewhat similar to the disrespect I have for gated communities. The implication is that the people on the other side are inferior somehow and should not be allowed entrance.
Yep, you're naive and idealistic. Good luck with that.

Leave your front and back doors to your home open. I'm guessing you already do, correct? Otherwise, you'd be sending a message to the neighbors that they are inferior and should not be allowed entrance. You do these things, right? I mean, anything else would make you a hypocrite.

Not in the slightest. The country is not my private property that I'm either renting or owning.

I don't understand your logic. But I don't have a one-liner to throw at you like texasborn did to me.
