The savings would be enormous over time for the taxpayers.

You can whine and whine and ifs, ands and buts but this can be done with minimum cost. Untie the hands of those on the payroll to do the job and get the mandated reporters moving............

I agree. Where there's a will there's a way. We just have to vote in politicians who have the will. Ridding ourselves of illegal aliens can and should be done. In the long run fiscally and in every other way we'd be far better off. The naysayers in here have a vested interest in keeping illegals here and allowing them to continue to come, IMO. I'm not fooled by any of them.

And as you are well aware the US population favors a route to citizenship and has for many years.

In U.S., 65% Favor Path to Citizenship for Illegal Immigrants

But beat that dead horse some more.

And then there are these two polls.

The Gallup poll has been running the question periodically for 10 years. The support for some level of amnesty has grown over that time.

In order to take any substantial action on immigration you would need a vast consensus. Particularly on birthright citizenship. It does not exist and is very unlikely in the future..

"Xenopobia Regarding Illegal Immigration"

How about "Disdain shown for Americans by allowing illegal immigration to continue and even rewarding it"
?

For every poll you find that claims Americans want amnesty for illegals, there are those that say otherwise.

A lot depends on how the questions are phrased and how much those polled know about the illegal immigration problems.

I did read it. Do the math. 30 + 23 percent is 53%. I had another poll saved but for some reason I can't access it. The percentages were even higher. Remain in denial if you wish. Most Americans want to end birthright citizenship for children of illegal aliens also.

"Thirty percent of those polled think that most illegal immigrants, with some exceptions, should be deported, while 23 percent believe all illegal immigrants should be deported".

True! When you use the "Dreamer" Act as example, you get the people on board who want to help students who have been here since they can remember. Unfortunately with every Dreamer you get Grand parents, parents, cousins, aunts and uncles in addition to the kids, many receiving tax payer benefits. Then you have the middle of the road workers. Lastly you have the people who commit felonies: Killers, Rapist, Robbers, drunken drivers, dealers, people who are arrested for assault. At the very least this last group should be immediately deported.

Darn I did make a mistake. It was 23% of the people who want to deport them all. That is close to the Gallup number.

But 30% did not want to deport them all. Now you need to parse that into the various classes...those who would deport all criminals only, those who would depart all except those with American children, those who would deport all those who have not been here 10 years...By the time you are done you will have reinforced the Gallup number that 64% oppose a broad deportation.

Read the heading of the poll. There were exceptions but overall the majority wanted most illegals deported. You're grasping at straws now. Done discussing this. As I said, it is apparent you don't want illegals deported.
