irrelevant. What Mexico needs is the USA drug sink shut down. If you know how to do that go for it...all will applaud.

In the interim understand that we undermine good government in Mexico by buying the drugs shipped from there.

I live in Texas, and my kids go to a majority Hispanic school. The kids are American citizens, and many of their parents are too, but many are not.

Honestly, people I have known all my life and just assumed they were legal citizens have confessed that they were brought here as babies. I never cared one way or the other. I knew a woman whose mother brought her across the river when she was a 9-month old infant, and now she's in legal trouble and they're threatening to send her back to Mexico. I know people will say too bad, but imagine growing up here all your life and then being sent back to a country you have no more relationship with than Timbuku. It's such a complicated issue when you live in a border state.

Just sayin'.

Don
I agree with everything you say here except while we cannot stop our own citizens from doing horrible crimes in our own country, our leaders can be making a effort to stop illegal aliens from committing crimes here. The fact that they don't is a crime in itself.

The fence jumpers as you say are the type of people that need to do it.
Anyone who thinks there is nothing wrong with breaking our immigration laws---or any laws as a matter of fact---does NOT have "good character". Especially since once they break the law by being here illegally, they have to break even more laws to survive here.

That girl who was brought here as a 9-month old is no doubt fluent in Spanish. I'm guessing that she's a young adult now? If so, she will adapt quite well in her own country (The US is not her country). If she is angry over what happened, then the blame lies with her mother.

Illegal immigration is a slap in the face to those who took the time to obey our immigration laws and patiently await their turn to come here. I have some neighbors who are legal immigrants and illegal immigration makes them very angry. One couple, who came here legally from South America, said that they dislike seeing signage in Spanish in this country because, as the wife put it "In America, we speak English".

It definitely shows a lack of character when someone deliberately decides to either sneak across the border or overstay a visa. Once here, illegals have to commit other crimes in order to survive. It's illegal for them to work so they do one of the following; 1) Commit ID theft. So many native-born Puerto Ricans have been victims of ID theft by illegals, that the Puerto Rican government had to take the unprecedented step of declaring all PR-issued birth certificates null and void. Now if native-born PRs need a copy of their birth certificate, they have to jump through a lot of hoops to get one; 2) Use a fake SSN. Disgracefully, there is a loophole in the law that no politician on either side of the aisle has attempted to close, that says it's okay if someone uses your SSN as long as they don't use your name with it. The SSA won't tell you if someone is using your SSN. You only find out when the IRS comes after you for not having filed a tax return on a job you never worked. Many Americans found out that several illegals were using their SSN when the IRS came after them. When that happens, the true owner of that SSN gets put in a world of hurt; or 3) They get paid under the table, thus engaging in tax evasion. Many Americans have gone to jail for tax evasion, yet illegals get a free pass for doing so.

Oh, BTW, I do "actually know a lot of Hispanics". After all, I am half-Hispanic.

Good post, and hate to say it this way, there is big difference between you my good friend and a lot of others. Your not alone, I happen to have a lot of Hispanic friends of course living in California. They feel the same way that you do, when your educated, yes I said it, you think a different way.

Your point rings so true, some do come here for a better life, come here and commit horrendous crimes. But them coming here illegally to boot, does not entitle them to thumb there noses at our current immigration laws. And make demands on our government for their entitlements.

We are stupid in this Country to allow this crap to continue to happen. What about your small children and then there children, this really want you want for there future.

We will have to agree to disagree. I feel like it would be a travesty to send the young woman to a country she has never even been to in her own memory, but I understand the issue is very complicated. I have mixed feelings myself.

But I do agree we need to end birthright citizenship. It's ridiculous that someone who is born here is automatically a citizen, even when their own parents are not.
The safety net IS the problem, not the solution.
When Americans embraced the notion it was a "good thing" for government to TAKE from one to GIVE to another, it triggered the necessity for a totalitarian police state.
How else can you enforce such an abomination? Wheedle pretty please with sugar on top?
Nope.
You get national ID, mountains of regulations, rules, and punishments for the disobedient, and a huge pressure to go "under the table."

Fortunately, the law says it's voluntary.
Unfortunately, millions believe that participation in socialism is mandatory.

Sigh.. again
Threads have topics. This one, in case there is any confusion, is " Mother of Teen Murdered by Illegal Immigrant tells Congress: Do something, it's your job" not "rant about anything illegal immigration related, relevant or not".
Yac.

Yes, it is too bad but she shouldn't be rewarded for her parent's law breaking either. Actually, we have so many from Mexican roots here that are retaining their native culture and language of which she is surrounded by on a daily basis that I don't see how going back to her homeland along with her parents would be so traumatic. I'm sure she has learned Spanish and her native culture from her parents also. I am also sure that she still has family that lives in Mexico.

Maybe sad to some, but those are the hard consequences, for not following the law to begin with. Is a harsh reality, that is why come here, but legally like most of our ancestors did and had pride in doing so.

I have many Hispanic friends also, but they do not want illegals here and they have no problem telling anyone why.

Most were born here, but some of there families did come here, but thru the process, and if it took a while so be it, was so worth it to them.

Break the law, and there are consequences, and that is the way it ought to be.
