Police came to the scene and determined the driver had a valid license, and sent him on his way. Brawley, grateful to be unhurt, was nonetheless left with a feeling that something wasnít quite right. In the push to grant illegal immigrants driverís licenses, Californians had been assured that doing so would spur them to get safety training and insurance coverage. Nearly a year-and-a-half later, thereís no evidence it worked.

Evidence scant California's licensed illegal immigrant drivers getting insurance | Fox News

Calif: are YOU going to make things right or, will your state STILL be stuck with millions of illegal aliens?

They will still be stuck with millions of illegal aliens. There's no point in trying to convince their politicians that they're destroying the state. It will only sink further down even more.

The police were at minimum supposed to have issued him a ticket for driving without valid insurance, but I don't know if they're doing that. California had a law that required the police to tow your car away if you were caught driving without insurance, but it was decided to no longer follow it because it wasn't fair to the illegals.

Brawley would have been required to file an accident report--well, both of them were, but the illegal probably didn't plan to--and seeing that the other driver did not have valid insurance, DMV would have automatically suspended his drivers license for that plus for failure to file an accident report.

Again, since the push to cater to the illegals, I don't know if that is still being done or not.

This part of the article confirmed what many of us suspected all along:

The law was part of a bundle of immigration measures designed to make California friendlier toward illegal immigrant residents

-----------------------------------
It's despicable that any state would want to make themselves "friendlier" toward illegals

Agreed. Some states WILL impound your car IF you're caught driving with no insurance.

It's a ball of confusion!

That's what California is today!

And the band plays on...

I thought aiding and abetting illegal aliens was against federal law. The feds are all over any states that take steps to deter illegal immigration though. Those in our federal government are such hypocrites.

Here in Illinois our idiot reps gave illegals a "temporary visitors drivers license" and it says on it "not valid for identification".

A large percentage of these people still don't get insurance or they let it expire

With the abundance of police cameras that are actively scanning plates, a easy solution is to link insurance and registration on a car. If you fail to keep insurance on the car after 14 days the insurance company enters revokes the insurance on the car and it is flagged for a tow to a impound lot. That way it becomes a money maker and police and the government have a reason to enforce it.

A police officer gets a hit on the plate for no insurance, he pulls the driver over. The driver can call a hotline and pay a emergency fee to get the insurance reinstated at this time. If he cannot do this the car is towed and held until insurance is current, tow and impound fees are paid. After about a year word will get out and drivers will now if they drive without insurance their car will be towed. It's the only solution.

Please; they've been living in a consequence-free environment for years. Why did anyone think anything would change?
