San Francisco is (but for how long?) a beautiful, charming and unique city. It's a shame that it's being allowed to circle the bowl.
San Francisco was an elegant city in the 1950s, albeit with some run-down areas due to white flight to the suburbs.

Then came the hippies, followed by the homeless, followed by the yuppies.

San Francisco prides itself on its compassion.

But it is not a nice city anymore.

In addition to being freezing cold compared to the surrounding Bay Area, it is extremely expensive, it is racially segregated, and it is overrun with homeless.

Gentrification has driven the middle class and artists out of the city. Now it's a city of the rich and the subsidized poor.

Aggressive panhandlers have ruled the streets since 1980.

There are open drug bazaars in the Mission, Haight and Tenderloin.

You can get crack, meth, heroin...whatever.

Brutal crimes are under-reported.

It's still a good place to visit, but forget living there unless you are rich or looking for handouts.
