This is EXACTLY why we need an AMNESTY coupled with an immigration bill that makes it clear to all that we will not have another amnesty and that we mean business when it comes to people sneaking into the country. It will no longer be tolerated and anybody caught facilitating illegal immigration, aiding them or hiring them will go to JAIL! No more "cost of business" fines and that crap!

It is not. The illegal knew she was illegal and deserves to be deported. Tough luck for the family. They knew better and such is life.

We tried that in 1986 and you can see where it got us. Look up the IRCA (Google is your friend) and you'll see that we were promised 20 years ago that it would be THE LAST amnesty and from henceforth the borders would be secured and illegal employers SEVERELY punished.
NO MORE AMNESTIES, SECURE AND DEFEND THE BORDER, PUNISH CRIMINAL EMPLOYERS WITH THE EXISTING LAWS.
Our laws drive families apart all the time. Our jails are full of people that have been forced apart from their families for breaking a law.
No kidding, well said.
The fact that she got married and had a child does not wash clean the reality of her breaking the law.
Illegal immigrants (not just people from Mexico) are either too dumb to understand the consequences of their actions OR they simply don't care that they are breaking the law.
Either way, that means immigration laws need to be more strict. Build that fence, stop giving out marriage licenses to people who shouldn't be here to begin with. Make it illegal to rent a home or apartment to someone who can't present proof they belong here, I could go on but you get the idea.

You would reward this woman for being a law breaker?

In this case (and others like it) while I do not agree whatsoever with the method in which she got here, this same government, which is forcing her to live apart from her husband and child for ten years, turns a blind eye to the millions of illegal aliens in this country flaunting our laws right under their noses.
Give the poor woman a green card. At least she, unlike many others, attempted to become a legal citizen. She should have to pay a hefty fine, but she should be granted residency.
Give slack to one illegal will cause the others to expect the same, no matter how they got here.
Hence my comment that assuming multiple laws were broken (which were not commented on in the original article); the woman deserves what she gets-----if it means staying out of the USA for 10 years.
Yes, it did, AB. The article stated she sneaked over here. She bought a fake green card, and other fake documents.
The government didn't force this family apart either. She knew exactly what she was doing, It's a wonder she's not in jail. And, they don't have to be apart. If an American citizen used fake documents, wouldn't they have to go to jail?
My husbands bank card # was stolen last year, and used all over LA. So, I know what its like. It's no fun.
For those that feel sorry for this woman, what if was YOUR identity she stole to work and live here in the US. What if it was YOUR work history she was messing with, what if she worked using your social security number, therefore making it look like you had earned twice what you really had, the IRS would expect you to pay up. I hear they aren't really friendly to people who don't pay their taxes.
Excellent post Lindsey.
