From what I have seen of EU 'socialism'; I can think of many situations that are far worse.

Face it: we (the USA) has much more in common with the EU than with Mexico and points further south; socio-economically speaking.

I think the European Union was a huge mistake and had no regard for the preservation of culture. All dollars and cents.

Remember that cultures also change as time goes on.

Not so terribly long ago; using Ireland as our guinea pig, it was a poor, desperate land------fast forward 50 years to now and the Emerald Isle's per capita income is equal to that of the USA and ahead of the UK.

Even the stereotypes about Ireland are changing.......fast. Not so terribly long ago the Irish had the rep of hard drinking, lazy rowdies------not anymore. Today's Irish have the rep of being affluent, educated, and tolerant towards others.

Same basic 'race/ethnicity'......and the Irish people are still Irish.

Don't forget being devout Catholics . Sounds like Mexicans too, only if Mexico would follow Ireland's footsteps.

And; the irony is as Ireland, Italy and Spain grow more affluent------the Catholic Church is all but dying. Inverse correlation perhaps?
