True there is a forum on it here in city-data Americans living in Mexico

First off, people of Latin American descent will never become the majority of this country during any of your lifetimes. You'll either be long dead or immigration will stop because either Mexico will catch up or the United States will continue to decline.

They're projected to be 24% of this country. It'd be very valuable to read what I've been saying though on the intriguing debate board. I described in detail that the government will absolve of the term Hispanic probably either upon the 2040 or 2050 Census. They will re-construct the definition of whiteness, and begin to include the one-half of Latin Americans who racially claimed to be white in the 2000 Census. The only thing that will change is Spain might be the most common European country people descent from and not Germany.

24% is not the majority. The country will be about 13% black, similarly to now. It will remain about 1% Native American/Alaskan Native. The country will be about 11-12% Asian. The United States will be approximately 50 or 51 percent of non Spaniard Euro and Middle Eastern descent. Basically, under what most of you normally think to be ''white'' in 2008, will be 50 percent of this country in 42 years.

Nothing would change, because ''Hispanics'' never existed. I mean that racially, ethnically and culturally. There are too many different countries with different percentages of white, black and indigenous ancestries within individuals (not the whole society being a human blender like some idiots believe).

People will forget to even remember that their ancestors were ''Hispanic'' or even considered apart of that gray territory. The indicator for that will be money and assimilation. People of Latin American descent will continue at even increasing rates to marry Euro-Americans, who are probably not Catholic - also depleting a major feature they contain in many non-Catholic areas.

Basically, if you do believe the term ''Hispanic'', they'll dissolve. By the game of technicalities, they may indeed rise in percentage, but as far as foreign-exposure, culture, bilingualism, Cathocism and blue-collared professions go, they'll also dissolve into white America - similarly to how Asians and Middle Easterners seem to do, except Latin Americans will be more physically camouflage to the populace.

Okay. In other words, stating that Hispanics will become the majority is meaningless? If that's the case, why do people make such statements?

I don't believe they intend on making meaningless statements. I believe there is a point, in their minds anyway, to what they are saying. If you don't know what this point is, that's fine.

As a sidenote, if the border stays open, what makes you think they will assimilate?

Agreed, but there are states and localities where Hispanics will become the majority.

Will they make Spanish the official language? If so, what will this accomplish? Do they plan to remake the legal justice system? What would this look like?

I imagine they will vote Hispanics into office, but so what? There already are officials all across the country of many different races and backgrounds, and they still must operate under the same system. Do Hispanics plan to change current institutions?

I don't understand what the significance of being a "racial" majority will hold.
By the time Hispanics are the majority I will be an old man. We're talking about Generations of Hispanics who have American beliefs and have been in America most of their lives. They were born here, they grew up here just like any other American. Sure some thing will change but I don't really expect it to be drastic.

What's the big deal; being a minority in the USA isn't so bad ... right?

No, we're not talking about generations who have been here. The increase will come from immigration, not birthrate.

Lets cut this up into little pieces. A while back Americans of Mexican parents were considered as White according to Census. Now, they are regarded under Hispanic or Latino. My belief is that these "Half breeds", Latino/White under a few generations (40 years is a long time) they will regard themselves as White. Most of the Mexican/White people I know look more White than anything, the White phenotype is dominant in this case. These people will most likely have blue eyes, dirty blonde hair with European features. I believe it all boils down to the very definition of "White".

There aren't a lot of immigrant politicians. And I doubt this will change since most immigrants come here poor and live in bad neighborhoods with poor schooling.
