It was still dark outside when the Avakian clan pulled up to the immigration office in downtown Phoenix Tuesday morning.

The family was being deported after living here in the United States the past 15 years, "It's heartbreaking, everyone was crying," said Avelina Weishaous. The family entered the country without authorization back in 1993.

They immediately applied for political asylum but were denied. In the 15 years since they lost every appeal, filed motions with the Board of Immigration Appeals and asked the courts to intervene. Every time they were denied.

Definitely SAD, Greatday . . . however, the law is the law.

With any luck at all, this scenario will be repeated many many times in the near future since entering this country ILLEGALLY is still ILLEGAL.

Interesting to note . . . the fact they abandoned their 13 year old daughter tends to speak volumes for their integrity.

What does annoy me is why our government cannot pony up a one way airline ticket for the girl to leave with her family-------we are only talking about another $300-400 here.

Yet it is perfectly acceptable for our tax dollars to pay for the thousands of illegal women here to pop out Anchor Babies.

To be fair though - I don't think the word abandoned is necessarily fair -

They could not afford the plane ticket and ICE would not pay for it. There is a fund raising effort underway to get enough money to pay for the daughter to join the family

Really, you have GOT to be kidding me. Not everyone can afford to purchase an airplane ticket to Mexico which are about $450-$600 depending on where you go.

Another poster made the comment - and one which I agreed with - why didn't the US Government pay for the fare? Regardless if the daughter is a lawful citizen, inasmuch as the rest of the family was being deported, the Feds should have, IMO, paid for her to go with her mother and father
