Exactly the same here in Florida. Very few whites or blacks in the construction trade here except for the occasional employee. Experienced tradesmen take much less an hour just to be working.
One of our competitors against whom we bid for work from one very large customer is a group of 15 Mexicans. The owner of the group is a legal US citizen, the rest are not. They do the work fast and cheap, but without as much quality. We pay competitive wages, pay all taxes, all employees are covered by workers' compensation---we're legal. They do hold down wages. They are raking in money.

The future of any job in America is not certain. Our world is changing so fast and most people don't realize what is happening. In just the next week or two Uber will start using 'driverless' vehicles in Pittsburg: Uber To Use Autonomous Cars To Haul People in Next Few Weeks | NewsFactor Network. Of course they will have a backup driver when they first hit the streets. However; all of this is about greed. Automation means that the employers can cut cost - no payroll, no benefits, no 'personal' problems; just money flowing in. At least it sounds 'bullish' enough to have so many working on this that they expect this to be reality very shortly.
I am waiting for computers to take over our legal system and Congress. Then I think we will see 'real' savings! I am kind of curious what everybody, including the illegal immigrants, are going to do when nobody works? I have to wonder if American business figured out who is going to buy their products then?
Whether people want to admit it or not, the Illegal Immigrant DO take many jobs that American citizens were once doing. We have a good friend who does dry wall, and the Americans cannot compete. The Illegals will work for less money. It's pretty sad. They really need to go after the Employers who hire them.
Back in the 70's working in construction meant a lot of money to American workers... I know, that was then and this is now BUT don't Americans come first? Seriously?
How about ...."American employers are giving our jobs to illegals" you should be whining about people who "illegally" hire them. Farmers, factories, construction, gardeners, nannies, dish washers... Etc.
People want cheap labor to improve their bottom line... It's all about the money!

I think for people that need part-time unskilled type work. The jobs that we are told Americans won't do, but actually some will do. Americans such as students, retirees or anyone really in need of some income. Those are the people that probably lose the most jobs to illegal immigrants.

True, but illegal aliens have taken full time blue-collared jobs also such as construction, landscaping, etc. that Americans used to do for a fair wage and were their sole income.

Yes your correct. They do take those jobs. The Govt has allowed this to happen, for many years now. It speaks volumes as to what kind of country, we are paying all these taxes to.
Times have changed, if those illegal immigrants disappeared tomorrow a large majority would go unfilled. Agriculture is a small percentage but a critical job that you won't see Americans take anytime soon.
You apparently missed the part where it was pointed out that there is an agricultural visa program that has no caps.
Farmers who obey the law and use the visa program have no problems getting their crops picked. The ones who have a problem when states like AL and GA get tough on illegals, are the sleazy farmers who refuse to use the visa program and opt instead for cheap, exploitable, illegal labor.
Have you thought of why it is that few Americans are picking crops? When sleazy farmers can use illegals and pay them less and exploit them, they don't want Americans or visa workers. Also, many unemployed Americans live in urban and suburban areas. How is someone who doesn't have reliable transportation going to get to the farms? In some cases, the farms are so far away that whatever money they make will be eaten up in gas costs and vehicle maintenance. Not only that, but it is seasonal work. Most people want year-round work.
This business about crops supposedly rotting in the fields is false.
