Trump has promised to deport people here illegally but has not yet provided specifics of his plans. Some of his advisers have said workplace raids are likely to be part of Trump’s crackdown.
The president-elect’s tough talk has won praise from some who believe illegal immigration is harmful to the country and takes away jobs from citizens.
But it has sparked anxiety in places like Southern California with large populations of undocumented workers.
I remember stuff like this. I worked for a small company that had an office in front and a factory in the back. One day I went into the factory and nobody was there. I asked my boss, ''where are the workers?''. He said, ''the golf course down the street got raided so our guys are hiding''.
This was early on in the Reagan presidency. Later on Reagan pardoned them all.
I agree . Easily solution . Don't stay in the country illegally . Thinking you can break laws and get away with it is the height of arrogance .
I wouldn't expect to live and work in another country illegal without fear of getting caught .
In 2006, the U.S. House of Representatives voted in favor of a bill that made illegal immigration a felony.
In response, protesting "immigrant advocates" poured into the streets waving Mexican flags.
This was soon followed by "A Day Without A Mexican," which was meant to show Americans how much they depended on "immigrants."
Here in San Diego, we had a lovely day indeed.
Traffic was light and people were smiling.
We all went to the beach.
I think they did something similar in L.A back then.
I recently saw children from L.A public schools waving Mexican flags in 'anti-Trump' protests.
Pretty disgusting since Mexico doesn't care about these kids.
Meanwhile our Mayor went to Mexico recently and said how great Mexico is and how it's like second home for him and proud of being half Mexican blah blah.
Pretty disturbing that he considers illegals 'under his charge'..
"“The city of Los Angeles is and will continue to be a city that welcomes immigrants," Garcetti said, as quoted in Mundo Hispano, an online news outlet in Mexico. “We don’t know what the future holds in store, but I want to say loud and clear that I am committed to guaranteeing the safety of all under my charge.” " Mayor Garcetti in Mexico: We will not build walls, we will build bridges | L.A. In the mid90s a new employee I hired had been working at Wendy's. I started her at $8/hour, not bad for those days. She was a citizen, and college student. A few weeks later they called to offer her the old job back at $9, because they had been raided and had to shut down, ALL of their other employees had been illegals, and they had to close up. As it turned out, she declined their offer and stayed with me. This was in Redmond, WA, not known for illegal aliens.
