SAN JOSE — Fearing deportation under the Trump administration, Mexican immigrants across the state are rushing to register their American-born children as dual citizens — an emergency plan in case they’re deported and compelled to uproot their families to Mexico.

Officials with the Mexican consulate said they’re seeing a surge in applications like never before, forcing them to work longer hours and to consider hiring additional staff as they scramble to keep up with the demand.

Undocumented immigrants rush to make U.S.-born kids dual Mexican citizens

Good!

Word's getting out the US ain't playing anymore with you illegal alien lawbreakers.

Do what you have to do. I never understood the whole breaking up families argument. Mexico also awards citizenship to children of citizens (just like the US). If a parent(s) gets deported, there's nothing stating that they cannot take their dual US/Mexico citizen children with them to Mexico (for those cases where we're talking about Mexican illegal immigrants).

Good. They Knew they broke the law coming here, then Staying here.... now they realize the ride is over. They should also be looking for work and homes in Mexico and leave BEFORE being deported. Then they would have a chance for getting in line and Returning LEGALLY....

Waiting on the "But the CHILDREN are citizens" Technically... NO they are not. But the bleeding hearts started this slide years ago......

This makes no sense to me. They were born here. Were these kids born in a back room somewhere? If they were born in a hospital they have a birth certificate. They are U.S. citizens.

I've never heard of a huge number of babies born in back rooms. How do you prove where they were born if so?

Mexico doesn't coddle immigrant children the way that the US does. Not being a Mexican citizen in Mexico is a much bigger hassle than being a foreigner here.

If the children were born in the US but are entitled to Mexican citizenship due to their parent(s)' nationality, then it will make all of their lives a lot easier if the parents are someday deported back to Mexico. That's why they're doing it: as a precaution.

That is an excellent point (bolded). I wonder if they realize that.

You wonder sometimes what they are being advised by lawyers , since it seems illegal to advise them to stay.

I cannot understand the legal community participating in continuing this and advocating the criminal breaking of the law. Heck, they want to get Kelly Anne Conway disbarred....at least she isn't aiding and abetting illegal immigrants. Some authority is going to have to call these lawyers on the carpet, and all the rest of the Gov't officials aiding and abetting the illegal's.

That is ironic. They're looking to get legal for Mexico, but don't bother to get legal with the U.S.
