That's good news! I just wish that they would be self deporting in greater numbers. Where I live, nothing has changed. However, where my brother lives, he says he has noticed a reduction in the illegal alien population.
Good! Just goes to show you what a change in administration can bring about on this issue. Let's face it: Dim-o-crat policies encouraged illegal immigration and everybody knew it. But there's a new sheriff in town and the people illegals have gotten the message.

The subject is apprehensions since the Trump inauguration.
You post results for 2015, and your article deals with continued fallout from the Great Recession. Your statement is not wrong, but that's not what we are talking about.
Clearly, Trump has had an effect on illegal immigration. He gets credit for that.
Hell, if he had his way, LEGAL immigration from some places would stop! So you may as well give up and go along with reality.
They just poured in like there was no tomorrow while Obama was in office promising amnesty despite what "polls" or "surveys" say that were only counting those that they turned around at the border.
It makes perfect sense that without the promise of citizenship and a wealth of public assistance benefits that it won't be as attractive to come into the US, also those that have been booted once will know that caught again they are looking at felony charges.
I saw what appeared to be a caravan, 6 junker cars - 3 towing 3 others, that broke down on the toll road with a flat tire and pretty sure it was headed south to the border after observing them for awhile. I am sure those with anchor babies will hold out or just put the kids with legal relatives in order to continue to draw public assistance, although there must be some who care enough to take the kids along. Went through the old neighborhood and noted what I had seen as a "processing" center for the incoming to have excess vehicles, they appear to caravan out there in vans, extra vans purchased last fall.
Slowing the influx and letting others know they are "notice".....................

Actually, apprehensions are "seasonal" as well as "cyclical." Generally, apprehensions decrease seasonally during the winter months and increase during the spring months. Throw in the impact of the economic cycle and conditions in the countries of origin and the United States and it's a little premature to give Trump credit for the current seasonal decrease in apprehensions. Moreover, since we're looking at "apprehensions," one should wonder how many folks are not being apprehended. Let's revisit this topic in January 2018 to see the real impact of Trump's policies.

Testifying to the committee in a first hearing Tuesday, former Border Patrol Chief David V. Aguilar said the percentage may be even higher than Mr. Trump teases. Compared with 2016, he said, apprehensions on the southwest border were down 67 percent through March.

Preliminary numbers obtained from CBP officials Wednesday night officials by CNN revealed a 27 percent decrease in total apprehensions along the nation’s southwest border with Mexico during the month of January. Family Unit Alien (FMUA) apprehensions also decreased in January by 42 percent while Unaccompanied Alien Children (UAC) apprehensions declined by 39 percent.
Similar drops in total apprehensions during the month of January were reported by CBP during the previous three years, according to information obtained from CBP by Breitbart Texas.
David V. Aguilar, former U.S. Border Patrol and acting Customs and Border Protection commissioner, told the Senate Homeland Security Committee that March 2017 figures he reviewed indicate illegal border crossings are down 67 percent, according to The Washington Times. By comparison, February statistics indicating the number of illegal alien apprehensions fell 40 percent.
“It’s actually up to 67 percent drop compared to last year,” Aguilar told the Senate committee.
The former Border Patrol chief explained that similar decreases occurred during the Reagan Administration but later spiked in the decades to follow.
Mr. Aguilar’s Capitol Hill comments were not immediately verified by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
If one peruses the official CBP data that was released today and does the math, one will find that Aguilar's claims weren't quite accurate. Here is a link to the official CBP numbers… https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/stats/sw-border-migration
