News, Immigration reform not sustainable, professor says.
As state lawmakers passed a much-discussed immigration bill on Wednesday night, Peter Schuck, one of the world's leading experts on immigration law and policy, spoke to a local crowd about the challenges of immigration reform, calling it "the key to our destiny."

This country has dealt with much greater dangers in its past.
We will prevail-------if our cowardly government lets us.
If it means subjugating the rest of Mexico and placing the whole country under US control-------so be it.
Obviously; I hope to God that it never reaches that point.

You just want to be "legals?" You and half of the other 6,655,176,526 people in the world. We can't take you all. Your country's proximity to our southern border doesn't give you automatic first call to come here.
Go home and fix your own country so that your children and your children's children will be able to have a good life (as the majority of America's grand-parents and great grand-parents did) or get in line with the rest of those who respect and love this country enough to follow her laws.
Your country may be poor, but it doesn't even come close to breaking the top fifty poorest countries in the world. Grow some bullocks and work to reform your own country. God knows that Mexico is not only a beautiful country, but it is chock full of natural resources. Work for equality in the workplace and in your country's educational system and there is no telling just how great it could be.
But stop expecting the citizens of the United States of America to be willing to give up their own employment, social services, and our country's dwindling resources to support you, your family, and anybody else who wants to waltz across the border with their hands held out.

I think we're going to see a large increase in green cards, guest worker permits and amnesty," Schuck said. "It's certainly going to have to happen. Our identity is based on acceptance of people from all walks of life, and we must be true to that when we solve these issues."

Well put by the leading expert.

Schuck's words are really no more convincing than those of the "guy down the street". Like so many platitudes, they contain a 'snippet' of truth but ignore the context.
Saying things like "our identity is based on accepting people from all walks of life, and we must be true to that" is merely 'pap' unless its put in meaningful perspective, (which isn't what he did).
Sure, we've made some mention of being an 'accepting" nation. We've ALSO made long-winded rants and speeches, by generations of our leaders and thinkers, that we're a nation of LAWS....and that the Rule of Law is ALL that's keeping us from being just another third-world "dump". Everyone KNOWS we don't require race, ethnic, or religious "ties" to be a part of America...any Second-grader knows THAT. The reason this WORKS, though, is because we've accepted the need to sublimate our DIFFERENCES, and downplay our conflicting ancestral cultures, into a "common whole". And what holds THAT together, is our LAWS---and nothing else.
To now "get cute", and try to make an 'end run' around that obvious fact, is, AT BEST, negligent. The spectacle we are now witnessing, of legions of our own 'intelligentia' and political leaders PUBLICALLY and SHAMELESSLY proclaiming the "right' of millions of people to simply IGNORE inconvenient laws--(and to castigate ANYONE who may object to this, as a "xenophobe", a "racist", or simply a "big fat MEANIE"), could well go a LONG way in destroying our society, based as it is on largely VOLUNTARY compliance with AGREED-UPON LAW. What happens in the coming decades, when some OTHER group, powerful, well-financed, and "noisy", for whatever reason, announces that IT, and ITS members, have chosen not to obey some OTHER law? What happens then to our "rule of law"?....
I can give you a GUESS..."Rule of (voluntarily agreed-upon) Law" MAY have to be replaced by "Rule of 'forced-upon-us' Law".....that's how it works in MOST of the world right now. Think we're somehow 'exempt'? I'm not too sure...In national matters, just like in private life, if you don't 'control yourself', and 'keep yourself in line', then sooner or later, SOMEBODY'S going to step in and "do it for you". We've been MOSTLY 'exempt' from much of the strife that afflicts the Third World, because, historically, we haven't BEHAVED like they do there---we've gone overboard to respect our LAWS, above anyone's "popularity", or convenience, etc. (Why do you think the US has traditionally been so hard on 'bribery'? Most of the world accepts this). We're 'luckier' in this country, because we've SO FAR, 'acted' like our laws MEANT something. Start acting 'otherwise', and pretty soon our society will reflect this. Don't know how many have traveled in the Third World, but as fascinating and interesting as it is, MOST of us wouldn't want to spend our lives there, mostly because society is unfair to all but 'insiders'. That's what happens when the concept of "Law" is looked at as either weak, or corrupt, and is not worthy of people's respect. HERE, it's supposed to be different. But that COULD change...nothing is 'forever'...
The choice is ours--- Rule by Law..or Rule by "Men" (and remember.. it might be a 'Man' we don't LIKE)..

Of course there's always the alternative. We could all choose laws which are inconvenient and decide not to obey them in the hopes that our society will acquiesce to our desires.
I choose bank robbery, izat cool with y'all?

That's just what we need a professor who has actually done nothing but think about doing something all his life.We need a doer not a day dreamer.Reminds me of the whiz kids under kennedy during vietnam;they decided that X amount of ammunition meant X amount of enemy killed. They became engrossed with body counts. They were all ex-professors at distinguished universities too.
