Obama did us as least one favor with quoting wet foot dry foot for Cubans and if Haitians have committed a crime they should be send back unless they have become citizens.
IMO anyone who has naturalized should be taken away their citizenship of the US if they commit a very serious crime like murder or rape and it will need to be proven by either the person having pleaded guilty and admitted to the crime or DNA proof.

You do realize once open relations with Cuba is clear these Cuban Immigrants will not be able to do that. Living in South Florida Miami most of my Cuban Friends start the legal process back in Cuba. Other groups should learn from this!
But all three fear they could soon find themselves uprooted from their American lives and back in their native Haiti if the Trump administration does not renew the special immigration status that has allowed about 50,000 Haitians to stay in the U.S. as their impoverished Caribbean nation coped with a devastating 2010 earthquake. It expires July 22.
Who at the LA Times who approved this headline needs to be punished for straight up LYING. Americans CAN'T be deported unless their kind were issued US citizenship and even then, that person had to do something seriously wrong to be stripped.
I'm curious to know what your definition of American is.

And to think that when my ancestor, Harrison Gray Otis was editor of the L.A. Times, it was a conservative paper.
I think most of us consider an "American" to be a native or citizen of the United States of America. Do I need to break down that meaning any further for anyone here? I can do it if needed.
The Haitians were brought here, meant to be here temporarily because of the earthquake, time to go home. Yet another non-issue, just the way it works!
My DIL came to this country, she was not native or a citizen, so not an American. She studied very hard and passed her citizenship test. She became an "American", a citizen of the USA, had she not, she would be here legally, but not an American by simply being present or marrying an American.

Over here definitely, in Europe not so much. Friends from Canada were told often that to them Americans are anyone from this side of the globe pretty much

I guess I missed the part about how this plan for them to return was determined and communicated to the 50,000 people it affects. Meanwhile they are here and have called this place their home for the last 7 years, likely with no place to go back to, and have the legitimate fear that without a renewal of their status by the gov't they are at risk for being stopped, detained and deported. I don't see what is so offensive with this journalism.
I'll have to agree to disagree with you here as I see value in making this into a news story when we're talking about the possible displacement or removal of 50,000 currently legal residents. This would have a large effect on a large population of people. As of today they are legally documented to reside in the US so this isn't an illegal immigration issue.
