“They want elected officials like the ones standing behind me to back down,” Austin City Councilman Greg Casar said. “We’re going to give them a summer of resistance.”

Once SB4 takes effect in September, local officials like Casar could find themselves facing criminal charges. Under the law banning sanctuary cities, any jurisdiction that declines to hold an undocumented immigrant in custody on behalf of federal immigration authorities would face fines and the loss of state grant money. Officials who enact such policies face the possibility of prosecution and up to a year in jail. SB4, drawing comparisons with Arizona’s 2010 immigration crackdown bill, allows police to question the immigration status of anyone they stop.

Maybe people like YOU, Mr Casar, NEED to be voted out or, at least put in your place for protecting ILLEGAL aliens.

Remember what I said earlier when the Texas legislature passed this draconian law? These lawsuits and boycotts will bring the state to its knees and they will be forced to either suspend or repeal it.

"Draconian", "Chilling", "Mean Spirited"

All words that give me a gag reflex when I hear them.

"You conservatives are so mean spirited! Passing these draconian laws that cause a chilling effect in immigrant communities! Waaaaaah!"

Perhaps we should just open our southern border and let everyone in. Then we could re-name this forum "Crimes, Drugs, Gangs, and Population Explosion," and lament the downfall of our economy. Yeah, that would give the pro-illegal alien sympathizers something else to focus on or go radio silent.

We remember your "dreams". Watch them turn into "nightmares" for those who are on board with them.

We are close to that now. Thank God that Trump was elected, our only chance of trying to stop this colonization by 3rd world subjects.

It sounds like Mr. Casar is more interested in getting re-elected than Americans.

Just curious, so if a LEO pulls someone over for a traffic violation, the LEO can ask them their immigration status, so the person says they are a Citizen, how is the LEO going to prove otherwise? Are we now going to be forced to carry proof of citizenship on us at all times? Second hypothetical question, if you or your family is robbed or assaulted and the only witness is someone here illegally, do you believe that they would step up and help catch the criminals, they won't if it means being arrested themselves. Third and final question, if young woman or girl here illegally gets raped, does the rapist get a free pass because she knows that if she reports the crime the State will add insult to injury by deporting her? Me thinks some idiots have not really thought out all the ramifications of passing this law, more like pandering to a specific base than justice.
One last question, Trump get Mexico to pay for that Wall yet?

No ID, a person can be arrested and, taken to jail. If an illegal alien woman's raped and reports the crime, she STILL needs to be held although if the cops have a good idea who the perp is, pick him up, too.

Good luck Austin Texas, don't forget, your charter as a city was given to you by the state of Texas and can be revoked.
