That cop should be deported too for such an injustice.
So you are against deporting illegal but advocate deporting citizens? What injustice was done? The cop asked a simple question. I invite any cop to ask me that same question.
It's only offensive to the illegals and their supporters.

Actually there's plenty of bonafide citizens who disagree with having to answer or prove questions like this.

Really doesn't matter just as long as LE are within their jurisdiction to do so. I would question why any citizen would object to simple questions posed by LE under lawful contact.

We are deporting illegal aliens and the speed of doing so will continue to pick up!

It may be offensive to other criminals, people that have broken our laws since it could lead to their arrest also. Law-abiding citizens/immigrants should not be offended by the question. Just how often do we have to show ID? All the time!

Law breakers, people with something to hide like an illegal alien I suspect.

Again, law breakers would object. If I had broken the law, I would not want to answer questions asked by an LE, of course, as a citizen, I wouldn't get the preferential treatment given to illegal aliens.

Lots feel that it is no big deal.
Lots feel that illegals should be treated like criminals, like they are thieves, squatters, and intruders. Which is what they are.

Indeed, but I doubt we are on our way to a police state where everyone must show their papers

What papers? Who carries papers on them under normal circumstances? Are you saying that LE shouldn't have the right to ask for a DL or state ID under lawful contact? Mine's laminated it's not a paper.
