I thought all illegals were hiding in the shadows fearful to leave their homes .

Cinthia Zavala-Ramos stood before the more than 400 members of her graduating Socastee High School class in South Carolina Wednesday afternoon as their valedictorian and made an announcement.

"The face that stands before you is the face of an undocumented illegal immigrant," Zavala-Ramos said. Like many other valedictorians before her, Ramos said she was nervous to give her speech. She thought people might walk out.

Maybe she'll get to stay.

But it was foolish to speak out. She may have brought a world of trouble on her family. She needs to know that it is not all about her; there are other people to be considered.

Deportation is in order. While hers may have been a sympathetic case in the past, the level of defiance and arrogance with this announcement makes it less so IMO.

Now with her education, which was likely paid for by our taxes, she can now go back and help her native country, I say deport the whole family if they are all illegals and let her support them back where they belong.

They shouldn't hide, they should go "home", the whole family. Most people that break the law are bright enough to not announce it in front of the world, I guess "valedictorian" doesn't come with "street smarts"!

I think it will anger many and the demand will be to investigate, detain and deport the whole bunch of them. They all defy the law in being here and further defy it when they remain. The mouthy ones are causing trouble for the rest. There was a time when some came, worked and demanded nothing and their presence was ignored, now they are all in trouble because of the mouthy ones who are going to show us, the American citizens, that they are "all that". "All that" gets their butts detained and deported.

Yes, they have milked the system long enough. She should consider herself lucky to have gotten away with being outside the law. That she is proud of this is yet another problem with these illegal aliens who have no moral compass to keep them within the law.

I agree!

Believe me if you are an American in Mexico or pretty much any other country you don't get any freebies and charge you the "Gringo price"

That prompted a reaction from Horry County School Board Chairman Joe Defeo, who said if students are "here illegally, they should not be allowed to go to school and use taxpayer funds
