What we need is less venomous talk and more focused thinking on how to solve this problem that the US brought upon itself. For decades the US government under both Dems and Reps looked that other way when US corporations encouraged undocumented aliens to come to the US to work for spartan wages.
Pulling the rug out from under families who have lived here for generations isn't fair.
It takes no brains to yell Throw Them Out. But this situation requires some brains to sort through it.
This post should be pinned to the top of the illegal immigration forum. Great points.
Technically, those that have settled here are undocumented Americans.
They haven't settled since they never legally immigrated, that's why they hold the official title of illegal alien. They will always be illegal until they legally emmigrate. ICE director is just stating what has always been true, it's only a matter of time before they rounded up and given the boot.
Calling illegal aliens Americans is a joke and insulting to those that went through the legal process of immigration.
Do you realize the nuances between calling yourself an American as opposed to an American citizen? Or between calling yourself a national vs. a US citizen? I will start pushing the term "undocumented American" in the public domain because it signals a more inclusive and welcoming attitude to those otherwise law-abiding illegal aliens.

They have already emigrated hence why they are here and we are having these discussions. You and others with similar thinking are the ones that will be given the boot for being inflexible, unfair and unreasonable.

Law abiding? There is not a thing law abiding about an illegal. It is certainly fair to enforce our laws, and in fact it is expected.

No they aren't. There is no such thing. Either they have citizenship papers or they don't. If not, they aren't American citizens at all. Their nationality is that of their own homelands.

Americans are going to be deported for wanting our immigration laws respected and enforced? What's unfair and unreasonable about enforcing our immigration laws and if we aren't going to do that then why have them? Every country in the world has them and enforces them.
