ICE Director: the new California law will block ICE agents from gaining access to criminal immigrants at jails and prisons.

This is a lie. California's sanctuary law does NOT give harbor to criminal aliens -- that's why police chiefs across the state dropped their opposition to the bill.

SJ News: "At least one part of Homan’s statement is clearly inaccurate because state prisons were excluded from the final version of SB 54, so ICE agents are still free to enter prisons at will. The law also allows federal agents to interview detainees in county jails, though not to hold permanent office space, and to access databases showing an inmate’s release date.

The new law will also permit local law enforcement officers to communicate with federal agents about detainees with felony convictions in the past 15 years as well as those awaiting trial for serious felonies for which a judge has found probable cause — and to coordinate transfers of those people into federal custody."

FACT: California is a partial sanctuary state. Well-behaved undocumenteds get sanctuary while the police are encouraged to hand over the bad guys to ICE. Keep the good ones, send the bad ones back. It's a good common-sense approach.

No restrictions should be placed on ICE as long as they are enforcing immigration.

No illegal alien should be protected from the law, period. There are no good ones. Nothing common sense about giving them a pass on our immigration laws.

From the news law agencies cannot: (see article below)

Ask about immigration status
Detain someone on a hold request from ICE
Participate in arrests based on civil immigration warrants
Place officers under supervision of ICE
Use ICE agents to interpret law enforcement matters
Participate in border patrol

Local and state officials can no longer hold immigrants past their release date unless they've been convicted of certain crimes. Perhaps this is what the head of ICE was talking about.
Safe zones are going to be created: schools, hospitals, libraries.
The State Attorney's office will publish training and guidelines as to how to limit immigration agents' access to personal information, and law enforcement agencies will have to send reports to the State Attorney's office as to whom they handed over to ICE agents.
State prison officials have to tell inmates that ICE has requested they be detailed.

ICE can't go into prisons and pull people out. They have to issue detainers.

California lawmakers passed the

Ronald Reagan disagreed with you. He said, "I believe in the idea of amnesty for those who have put down roots and lived here, even though sometime back they may have entered illegally."

Before he was stricken with Alzheimer's, Reagan said he regretted the 1986 amnesty. I never was a fan of Reagan anyway.

Reagan was wrong. How were they able to survive without using fake or stolen SS numbers to attain work or work for cash evading taxes? They live a life of lies and just because they have put down roots does not excuse them for violating our laws. Reagan also mistakenly thought only 300,000 would be involved in that amnesty when it turned out to be 3 million. That amnesty was wrong just as it would be wrong now.

There is nothing commonsense about rewarding and/or protecting illegal aliens. "Well-behaved" undocumented? Too funny! They broke our immigration laws and break laws everyday to remain here. They have no right to work. They are not "undocumented" because they routinely steal the identity of American citizens.

So, what other lawless people do you protect in your state, or is it limited to just illegal aliens that put money in the pockets of your business people?

Agree. US citizens that have broken our laws aren't given "sanctuary" and cities/states don't try to block federal law enforcement agencies from collecting the individuals.

No person that has broken and/or continues to break our laws should be given a pass, not even if paying them cheap wages makes the rich richer in CA!

You do know that Ronald Reagan is dead, right? Imagine the mess that we would have avoided if he would not have given amnesty.

I didn't vote for Reagan. Glad that I didn't too! Frankly, who cares what a dead President thought one way or the other, no me.

I suppose Reagan had lobbyists stuffing his pockets with cash in order to make this decision. I suspect he may even have had investments that grew due to the presence of illegal aliens. I don't see why anyone really considered him that special. I barely remember him even being POTUS.

It is quite possible that Reagan was already suffering from Alzheimer's when sworn in as POTUS. https://www.usnews.com/news/blogs/wa...s-as-president This may have led him to make decisions that were not the best and maybe pushed on him when he wasn't able to really decipher the outcome. It makes me wonder how many decisions were actually his. i had not been aware of this until now.

Local LEO agencies worked just fine with ICE and other federal agencies up to this point. Nobody said they were doing ICEs job, until now. It's purely disingenuous when they say they are not protecting Illegals.
