I tend to agree that a serious recession will give the government 'incentive' to start de facto mass deportations with laws similar to what we have here in Arizona as well as Oklahoma.
Cut off the income/housing and most illegal immigrants (of any race/ethnicity) will bug out.

I don't blame him, much of the Republican party has not handled the immigration debate as civilized but with harsh rhetoric. The Republicans lost in 2006 because of corruption and the war, they might lose in 2008 because of the economy and gas prices. The Republicans are trying to make illegal immigration the top issue to win in house seats, but the problem is other issues more important to Americans pop up that the democrats bash them over the head for.
