El Paso was never a big crime problem. In fact the trustworthy numbers never really moved. Look at the murder rate...same before and after the fencing. And rapes have gone up.
And of course there are places where a wall makes sense...San Diego and El Paso both being good examples. Though the wall in general should be made as unobtrusive as possible.
So no the wall had no real effect on violent crime in El Paso. El Paso is also relatively low on crime while having a very high illegal immigrant population.
Stats revealed in this column documented a tremendous reduction in crime after the wall went up, versus prior.
That's how it should be. Being granted the privilege of US citizenship should be merit based. Those with superb skills will, no doubt, find an employer willing to sponsor them coming to America.
Those w/o skills are better off in their own, less well developed nations, where they can compete with other unskilled workers.
If the southern states want a wall, then they should pay for it. Why should the rest of us pay.
The thing is, they don't because they already have one.
