As we all know the DACA situation is a mess. Reps want to send them back and the Dems are now expecting amnesty since they "caved" and funded the gov. at least for the next few weeks with the promise that they will all debate about the DACA "kids" .
I put "kids" in quotes because most of these people are adults.

They admit that there are nearly 800,000 people that are in the DACA program and maybe there should be a compromise that they can stay? I imagine that many of them have been working and they have roots in our society so perhaps they should be allowed to stay. If any of them are in prison then why would we want them? Send them back!

But here is a question. The DACA kids are here because their parents brought them into the country illegally which makes the parents illegal aliens.

If the Reps and Dems can come to terms on this which I doubt I would like to see the responsible DACA people that are members of the community and contributing to the betterment of America be allowed to stay BUT there will be NO "Chain Migration" meaning their parents will still be illegal. The children of the DACA people will be allowed to stay.

If they all want to go back to their homeland that is fine but don't be surprised when ICE runs out of criminal illegals and they come calling to your house and tell you it is time to go back home and get in line for legal immigration.

I think this would be a good compromise that even Schumer could get behind.

As a legal immigrant, DACA is amnesty pure and simple. They should go be sent back rather than shoved in front of legal immigrants.

I don't think people understand what it takes to qualify for DACA.

You may request DACA if you:

  2. Came to the United States before reaching your 16th birthday;
  3. Have continuously resided in the United States since June 15, 2007, up to the present time;
  4. Were physically present in the United States on June 15, 2012, and at the time of making your request for consideration of deferred action with USCIS;
  5. Had no lawful status on June 15, 2012;
  6. Are currently in school, have graduated or obtained a certificate of completion from high school, have obtained a general education development (GED) certificate, or are an honorably discharged veteran of the Coast Guard or Armed Forces of the United States; and

I agree on that as how can anyone say they will be at the back of the line while others have to wait for years so where is the line starting?

It took us approx. 15 years for the legal route so that should be the start for any DACA to start which is not a green card but first with a legal visa application and if they are in compliance with leaving every two years like we had to do to be in compliance with our I-94 compliance rule, than this same rule should be in place for DACA too!

See how it is/was for legal aliens and not just handing out green cards!

Stop chain migration!

Just an USCIS error/typo on the date issued for a green card in one of the liberal states is now already taking 11 months just for the card to be replaced. That is costing the person an additional new drivers license and another 4 hour trip to get their passport stamped and this is for a person that did everything legal and USCIS making an error.

How long will that time line get if DACA gets shoved in front of everyone already busy to get their status to be updated as the legal time lines are ridiculous delayed.

No. If we make any exceptions for massive amounts of people, then we have no laws. Nobody will ever take our immigration laws seriously.

Part of the reason we have this problem today, is because we gave all illegals amnesty back in the 1980s. What that did was encourage more massive illegal immigration.

People need to learn that illegal immigration is not an option. If we keep legitimizing them, then we will always have this problem. We have to stop it now.

It needs to be law that no one who comes here illegally can ever be granted citizenship or voting rights.

Citizenship should always be off the table for anyone who enters or stays and becomes illegal. That takes away all incentive for them to be political pawns.

Everything else can be negotiated.

It's already impossible. Currently, there's no path to citizenship or any legal status for anybody that comes to the U.S unlawfully.

But, Americans enable them to stay here by hiring them, renting homes to them, giving them drivers licenses, allowing their undocumented children to go to our public schools, etc...

That's the problem. Illegal immigrants are allowed to lead normal lives here. That's what we need to stop if we ever want to fix this problem.

Have a heart and don't be such a selfish POS. I think OP's compromise is fine.
So it's not immoral to skip out on paying thousands of dollars, and spend hundreds of hours, to become a citizen legally?

Here's logic: while they were brought here as kids, they've had plenty of time to remedy the situation, yet they haven't.

Selfish is thinking that those Dreamers should get a pass, while other immigrants have paid to do the legal and right thing. How's this for a compromise: those Dreamers pay the max amount of money that anyone has every paid to become a citizen, then pay back every penny of unpaid taxes times 10 (because they are either working without paying taxes, or they have stolen an identity to do so), and if they stole an identity to work, they serve prison time for the offense. After all of those concessions are made, they can apply to become citizens. Deal?

You can "want" to send them back all you want. Sending them back is quite another story.
