One cannot have a firearm if you are here illegally.

I am not an alien who is unlawfully present in the United States

That is part of the checklist to qualify for a FOID card which qualifies you to legally carry a firearm and ammo.

The Police Chief is advocating for him to keep his job. He should be charged with a crime along with Martinez.
Just one example on how this DACA is not good.

Uncertain future for Illinois police officer who is a DACA recipient

“Germain Martinez Garcia tries not to let the daily headlines affect him too much.

“I have to try — for the community — I can’t have any negative thoughts in my mind. It doesn’t allow me to do my job like it should be done,” he said.

Martinez is a DACA recipient, himself. He was brought into the U.S. without documentation when he was only 6, and grew up in southern Illinois. Now, he is a local police officer on the force in Fairmont City, Illinois.

The department hired him about two years ago to complete the police academy. He has been patrolling the streets for about nine months.

“I love helping people, interacting with people, and just the community — I really enjoy the community,” he said.

“What we try to do here is make the police department look like the faces of the people in the community,” said Fairmont City Police Chief, Scott Penny. “Fairmont City is approximately 70 percent Hispanic population.

Penny met Martinez when the officer was just an intern and said he recognized potential. Not familiar with the DACA program enough to know if he could hire Martinez, Chief Penny started making phone calls around the state.”
This is why we pay you Trumpees no mind. First, you paint all of these immigrants as really bad hombres, but then , when one comes along who is actually contributing to our society, you have nasty things to say about him as well.

These posts are just silly as Hell and without foundation.

He was in compliance with federal law though, as part of DACA he is not considered to be 'unlawfully present in the US' There are 900 DACA recipients serving in the military, do you think that they aren't allowed to carry weapons?

Hmmmm, you got me thinking...... now I wonder. I would think some would be legal and some not.

If this DACA police officer in this community comes into contact of an illegal and or a DACA I wonder what he will do?

I still wonder how it got approved to carry a firearm and ammo
As a Police Officer he will treat them according to the law. I'm so sick of this constant disparaging of people. Do you think female Police Officers treat women differently, or that Jewish Officers give Jews special breaks? He got approved to carry a firearm because DACA gave him legal status to be in the US.

What makes him not a person, legally here or not? The right to keep & bear arms, is not isolated to citizenship. He is a person and has the right to defend himself.

Now, him being a law enforcement officer... that is ****** up and makes no sense.

Well it's the last gasp of a bunch of people who think that if they can rid the US of every person who is not lily white they can have their great white America back again...too bad they don't realize that train already left the station. Since 2013 there have been more babies of color born every year than there were white babies.

Guess that is why the state is ILL. Not much that goes on in that state would ever surprise me. I wrote them off years ago.

DACA is not law, it is a former President's memo to the DHS. DACA doesn't exist in legal context, because it is unconstitutional.

You have to understand that there are a few elements to the OP posting these kinds of stories. First of all, they see anyone who isn't a white male as being suspect. "How can a Hispanic cop fairly treat other Hispanics, wouldn't he naturally look the other way?".

Secondly, they are grasping at any straws they can to deflect attention away from all the things happening to their leader right now.
