Legal status is not a state right... what did he pardon them on? Because he can't pardon their illegal status away

They can be, however they may have ways of obtaining status as well and a pardon would help with that. The majority of the time a judge will listen to an eligibility for relief if they have it

Hopefully the feds will still deport them. To not do so will only embolden the crazies in CA to take it a step further.

Poll: 74 Percent of Californians Want to End Sanctuary Cities

Quote:
The issue to end sanctuary cities in the state crosses racial and party lines, with 65 percent of Hispanics registering their agreement, while 70 percent of independents, 82 percent of Republicans, and 73 percent of Democrats feel the same.
Poll: 74 Percent of Californians Want to End Sanctuary Cities

I am wondering how many democratic voters who do not support sanctuary status will react in the next election cycle?

Call me discouraged.
Every citizen has the right to be protected by federal law, and when politicians in California break those laws, they violate the constitutional rights of their citizens.

Translation: California is now in the same position as Arkansas, Mississippi and Alabama when they defied the Supreme Court on desegregating the schools. Ike sent in the 101st Airborne Division in addition to federalizing the Arkansas National Guard, and JFK federalized the national guards of the other two states. Federal marshals may be tasked to take California politicians into custody.

My message to communities under siege from drugs and gangs and violence is, You can stop this, and you can stop it cold. Partner with the federal government so we can help to remove these threats from your communities and restore peace to our streets.

Translation: Local communities can defy the California state government with federal backing. If California state law enforcement attempts to take county and local officials into custody over violating the state's unconstitutional actions, state law enforcement can expect to be challenged by federal marshals backing county and local officials. This may lead to firefights, but if that happens, California will finally have its Fort Sumter moment.

There are precedents left over from the Civil War that could turn California into a "military district" ruled by the Army. The state would lose its congressional delegation and its ability to participate in federal elections. It would then have to apply for readmission to the Union by writing a new state constitution acceptable to Congress.
