Is the US the only place they can escape from the gang violence or a drug cartel? Why travel that far to a hostile country with a horrible president and tons of racists, who do not even speak their language?

The scary scenarios you casually dismiss as fiction may well be real. They may go back and be the victims of gang violence or get killed by a drug cartel. It's just that those things, despite being horrible, do not qualify one for asylum.
We cannot take in the entire world, although many think we should. If they go back and are victims of violence then there is a good chance they are gang members fleeing from their problems.
It's pretty obvious that they'd travel here because, despite our horrible president and tons of racists, the opportunities are better and it's generally safer.
And don't forget our generous social programs... a huge magnet.
Can't...all the countries you named control their borders.
What an ironic statement! We have borders, too, and immigration laws on the books. I guess the US deserves no respect from the millions who want to come here. It's obvious - and fact - the US is too easy on those trying to break into the country. Tsk tsk.
They should get deported back to their country and be advised that they will not get any freebies and/or any assistance from USA for trying to cut in line and entering into this country by lying. Also, they must stay in their country and deal with their situation there or seek asylum to the nearest country they cross or get waaay back in the line and apply to get here legally.
If they get to the border, my opinion has always been they should be TURNED RIGHT AROUND AND DENIED ENTRY. If they request asylum, I believe we have to at least give them the credible fear interview and if they 'pass,' they get a hearing, YEARS in the future. This has got to be stopped - IMO - or the criteria has to be really tightened down. Or, we (Congress, those do-nothings) should assign a numeric limit to what we will accept (Congress has to do all this because all of this is codified in law.)
If we find them inside our borders, with no evidence of a legal right to be here, they should be deported IMMEDIATELY. No 'hearing' before an immigration judge, etc. They get a notice to appear and then - shocker! - they never do! I think ending Temporary Protected Status is one avenue to begin to get a handle on our problem. Because if there is a program like TPS that someone is eligible for, a judge has to avail them of that program (and TPS overlooks the fact that you got in illegally - yes folks, your Congress at work!). It's a hot mess.
