In college I took an Ethics course, and one of the subjects we studied was Lifeboat Ethics. The basic premise is, for example, if you were on a lifeboat that could only hold six people, and there were people in the water around you drowning, would you give up your seat to one of those drowning folks, knowing that he would live and you would die? If so, why? Is your life any less valuable than anyone else's? Do you not have the right to live? Does the fact that you made it onto the lifeboat when someone else didn't mean that you should give up your spot to someone just because their circumstance is different than yours?

While reading another thread in this forum, I was reminded of this philosophy. Some would consider being a US citizen as being fortunate. That living here gives us a chance at a better life, with better opportunities, than someone being born in Honduras or Mexico or Guatemala. Does this then mean that we are expected to give up our benefits and rights so that someone else less fortunate can have them? Don't we have as much right to these things as anyone else?

To me it seems that allowing illegal immigration is saying that their rights are more important than ours. Why is healthcare, housing and employment for them more important than taking care of our own veterans? Why do we spend our tax dollars educating their kids at the expense of our own children's educations?

The illegals, refugees, and asylum seekers want to climb on the lifeboat that is our country. Unfortunately, as they climb aboard it is too much for the boat to bear, and it is in danger of sinking and drowning everyone on board. The climbers don't care that they are sinking the boat, they just want to get on. Some of the folks already on the boat don't see that they are condemning themselves by allowing them to board, they think they are doing the right thing by letting them on because "they are just trying to live", while some others on the boat see what is happening but can't get the others to listen.

Is our country going to allow itself to sink because we are allowing too many on board at our own expense?

Sadly, the pro-illegal alien types (liberals and RINOs) don't care. They all want open borders and amnesty with no thought of the long-term consequences.

We will reap the consequences long before 'people' finally, fully understand the push to shut down the border (to the extent that people just jump over the wall and run in!) They just do not get it. Yet.

Sadly, when they do get it, it will be too late.
