it is my understanding that ICE is simply enforcing laws on the books. if people think that is a problem -- they should direct their anger or concerns to the lawmakers who created those laws.

Plus, the illegals need to take action in their own Countries. Nothing will change until they take to the streets. They seem to have no issues doing it here.

When an illegal crosses the border he/she automatically accepts the fact that he/she is subject to incarceration and deportation. The penalties are worse for the same offense when committed in Mexico.

We will never have secure borders until we have full enforcement of the law.

Another suggestion for a thread title.

“Irresponsible parents skirt the laws of the US and create misery and separation for their families”

Sorry I’m not sorry for my opinion and for them to risk to come here illegally.

The laws are not changed, just implemented.
This.

I am also a legal immigrant (now American citizen). I did what you did - paid the fees, filled out the forms, got the fingerprints and FBI background checks, had the physicals, traveled hundreds of miles to wait in line for many hours in order to be interviewed multiple times. Filled out more forms. Paid more money. Traveled hundreds of miles again (and again). And then waited. For years.

Do I feel sorry for illegals who settled illegally into American towns, worked illegally in American jobs? Do I feel sorry for "good families" who increased the burden on already overburdened American social safety nets, education systems, health care systems and criminal justice systems? Do I feel sorry for illegals whose lives are now in disarray on American soil? The answer to all of those questions is no.

No. I don't.

I went through the process legally. It was a lot of work, worry and frustration, but I never had to look over my shoulder wondering when the hammer was going to come down. Wonder when and if the feds would knock on my front door.

I went through the process legally, and never had to worry about whether one day the mood of the country would swing against me (and so would the president of the country) and my illegal presence would no longer be welcome.

I was a legal immigrant. And now I am an American citizen.

It's typically hard on families when criminals are taken away. Why should we feel any more for this group of people than say the family of an armed robber, burglar or rapist that gets locked up?

PS: The US criminal justice system is obviously racist and cruel in the extreme. Why respect such evil?

Yeah...right...I remember something about parting the waters but not parting with commonsense.

They only have themselves to blame. Follow the law. I know that's just too difficult!!
