Sorry for your losses.
I have not been in this country that long to be held accountable.

The similarities are compelling.
Immigrants back then had pride
goal oriented and with no expectations
other than a chance to earn a living
in return for hard work.

Most of them came legally also, not illegally.

We need to fix the system. Shutting it down does nothing. Illegal immigration will increase if you do that. One reason for overstays is the 3 and 10 year bans. The 3 could be reasonable but 10 just scares them into staying.

We don't need to ban immigrants or stop immigration. We need to control our immigration system and rationally control who we accept and who we don't. Having millions of 5th grade educated impoverished people pouring in is irrational and not a plus for our country and we have every right to control our borders and immigration system.

We should evaluate immigrants on one criteria alone - do they add value to our society? We should only be letting in educated people who can bring skills and add value to our nation. I'm sorry people are impoverished and living under terrible conditions, but that isn't my problem.

They feel strongly. But is it actually a FACT? No.

So as not to point fingers at one ethnic group would a temporary ban on all immigrants
coming into the United States be a viable solution to supply enough time to get our house in order?

What are your thoughts? Curious minds would like to know.
No. Acting on a bunch of people's fearful feelings is not good public policy.

Illegal aliens take far, far more than they give. For example, who do you think pays for it when they birth anchor babies? Answer: The taxpayers. Who do you think pays for it when they go to the ER and use it like others use personal physicians? Answer: The taxpayers. Who do you think pays for their children's education? Answer: The taxpayers. Please don't say that they are paying for the education through their rent payments. When they live 10-15 in a flophouse, what meager rent they pay doesn't come anywhere close to paying for the education of 1 child. Where I live, a house has to be assessed at $1 million in order for the taxes on it to cover the education of 1 child.

You, apparently, haven't seen your neighborhood and schools destroyed by illegal immigration. If you had seen this, you would understand why people are "fearful".

This is not just Australia, but in Canada and Western European countries as well.

As it should be in the United States.

A ban would be fine. First thing's first. Enforce existing immigration laws.

No, illegal aliens cost us over $100 billion a year while they only pay $19 billion in taxes and that is only their fiscal costs. They take jobs and resources from Americans also and overcrowd our schools, jails, hospitals, roads and neighborhoods. Many work for cash and don't pay any income taxes. They send billions back to their homelands not spent in our economy.

Fearful feelings? No, I'd sat it's resentment and objection to all of the above and rightly so!

Why do you keep reporting the same fake news over and over? Those numbers have been debunked repeatedly. squawk squawk
