We have countless U.S. citizens dying while awaiting life-saving transplants. This 'undocumented' woman is hoping to receive her fourth.

Following is a comment made by the three-time liver transplant recipient.

Quote:
"It doesn't matter if I'm undocumented," she said. "They should take care of me at UCLA for the rest of my life because I've been there since I was a baby."

What else shall we blame illegals for? The war in Iraq?

Spin it anyway you choose. It will not alter the fact that illegal aliens are receiving expensive (tax-funded) organ transplants that U.S. citizens should be receiving. Of course, your only concern is illegal aliens -- to heck with legal citizens. As another heartless individual once said, "Let them eat cake!"

Puente's case highlights two controversial issues: Should illegal immigrants receive liver transplants in the U.S. and should taxpayers pick up the cost?
Hell no!!!

The reason this lady is getting so many organs is beyond belief. There is a very long list of wait, this lady getting 4 sounds fishy.

If it is cake you want, it is cake I shall give you.

Ok, here we go:

Quote:
The average cost of a liver transplant and first-year follow-up is nearly $490,000, and anti-rejection medications can run more than $30,000 annually, according to the United Network for Organ Sharing, which oversees transplantation nationwide.
3 liver transplants @ $490,000 each = $1,470,000

anti-rejection drugs @ $30,000 annually * 19 years = $570,000
(first transplant in 1989)

which leaves us with a grand total of....... $2,040,000 in medical bills.

This is impressive even by my standards. I know of a number of cases where they have easily topped $250,000 (quintuplets in a woman who came to 'visit' the US after she realized she was carrying quintuplets and decided to stay because' everything was so nice and new', an illegal with multi-drug resistant TB that required extensive treatment and another liver transplant who crossed into the US illegally knowing she needed a transplant). There was a recent case of a woman who was in an accident riding a motorcycle and ran up $500,000 in bills. And a family with conjoined twins who showed up here before the birth so we would have to pay for the $1,000,000 separation surgery. But clearly this one is in a league by herself.
Best of all, she says ""It doesn't matter if I'm undocumented," "They should take care of me at UCLA for the rest of my life because I've been there since I was a baby." Now that's gratitude for you, isn't it?

There are cases where multiple transplants are required.

You may consider this a joke, but many U.S. citizens have died; including a dear friend. You just lost ALL credibility.

Oh really, I did? according to who? I've seen a documentary on this. And the list is too big; so big Americans are going to China and India to get their organs. It is awful odd this lady is getting so many.

In California, nearly 3,700 people are on a waiting list for livers, according to the network. Last year, 767 liver transplants were performed in the state. More than 90% of the organs were given to U.S. citizens.
See how long the list is?
