This would make of Mexico a real partner of the Trade Agreement but in a real way, producing their own products and supporting the US as a real partner, if you dont understand me, look what the EU has become, a big club where all members stick together for the wealth of the entire Union.
I believe is time to stop this foolish game of chasing illegals and start working for real how to give them a hope in their own land and make of them a real partner where everyone get benefits out of this merge of strenghts.
Using Spain as a proxy for Mexico: once the former country got its 'house in order' (rule of law, etc); then it was rewarded with entry into the EU complete with the Euro, open borders, etc.

The ball is in Mexico's court----------it has to bring itself up to US standards first. Read that reform and enforce its tax laws, reign in corruption, play hard ball with the drug lords, etc.

As a "new" American, and I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you migrated to my country legally, you should be angry as hell at my government for making you jump through hoops to become a U.S. citizen while it conspires to hand out the rights of American citizens to people in this country illegally like they were yesterday's stale Halloween candy.

You may not realize this, but Mexico could be a country that could easily support its own citizens if its government were not so corrupt. Japan has said that if they owned Mexico with its numerous natural resources, they would be the richest nation on Earth.

BTW, if the EU is so great, why is great Britain dying to get out?

You are always welcome on this forum, Mr. Elkhateeb--- your English is not perfect, but we do understand you well. Perfect English is not required for success in the United States. We have a leader, our President, whose English is FAR from perfect, and he occasionally even invents NEW words, never heard before. Yet we all understand him, even when we wish we didn't. We have no problem understanding you, either......so continue to bring us your thoughts and ideas....

CATOGAMO, I agree with this post above. The US is VERY reluctant to go into any equal partnership with Mexico, much in the same way that the members of the EU are VERY wary of admitting Turkey. To put it crudely, they just don't "trust" Turkey. Its standards of societal freedoms and human rights is just too different from that of Western Europe...at least at this point.
(Someday, when Europe has a Muslim majority, or the US has a Hispanic majority, these objections may disappear...but many people are VERY pessimistic about the changes this will bring in their systems of law and government....UNLESS there is a sudden and massive assimilation by these groups--which looks pretty doubtful)..

Kele, instead giving me the benefit of the doubt, you should congratulate me as a new US citizen. I gained citizenship legally, and it does bother me when someone just "jumps" over the borderline and complains for rights...thats is ridiculous and I fully support the govermment about not granting them any right untill they do things right.
Now the comparison about the EU and the US regarding Mexico, is because we need to keep them busy in their own country, this is not about lifting walls and spending billions on issues that never fades aways, is becoming an endless nightmare, dont you agree? is time to do something else than deporting them to Mexico, wasting our time and taxes in a problem that needs a solution right away. Have a great day and God bless America.

Turkey=Mexico are an excellent analogy, yes.

As for 'Islam'; moderate Muslims have more in common with moderate Christians, Jews, etc. compared to the 'Islamist' variety of 'Muslim' symbolized by Osama bin Laden, etc.

I hope ALL of us note your words before we call for too much "multiculturalism", as many of us have. Are you LISTENING, everyone? Here's a man who can't SPEAK as freely as we do.....because of the LAWS where he lives...which are different from OUR laws. Let's recall this the next time we feel like calling for "Change"....Change from WHAT, to WHAT?....as Elkhateeb's post points out, SOME things in other cultures are fine, but SOME we wouldn't want here....such as the "culture" that protects itself by imprisoning those guilty of free speech.
"Be Careful What You Wish For", as we say here in the USA....and that goes for everything, including cultural change..

Thanks for your post--and for letting me "borrow" it....

I did indeed make note of that, macmeal, and I hope Baraa's presence here doesn't lead to any trouble for him in Cairo. We've certainly seen how China deals with the Internet.

Baraa, I would like to say that I am honored by your presence here, please continue to speak your mind freely, it is good for us 'spoiled' folks to see how good we really have it here.

Thank you.
