The statement "speaking Spanish doesn't mean you're not assimilated" is not the same as saying "speaking Spanish is assimilating".
Don't just pick a short line of some post and distort it, please.

Check the article regarding Miami becoming a Spanish speaking city where Americans speaking the common language of this country are facing job discrimination. Miami is a good example of assimilation not happening -- yet there are those defending the notion that the USA SHOULD become divided by language and it's only fair to deny Americans jobs.
It's fine to learn Spanish -- I did and I gladly use it when I travel to Mexico. If I were to ever relocate to Mexico then I would speak it all the time and I would want to assimilate. If I speak English almost exclusively when I'm in Mexico and use English to exclude people of Mexico from a conversation when I can speak Spanish, then I would not call that assimilating at all. If I went to Mexico and opened a business and hired only English speakers then I would say that was not assimilating.
