A nation of immigrants is holding another nation of immigrants in bondage, exploiting its labor while ignoring its suffering, condemning its lawlessness while sealing off a path to living lawfully
Just another pro illegal fan on the sinking ship grasping at straws. Their collective desperation is palpable.
The USA along with Mexico, etc. are sovereign nations------and, have the right to control their borders. In other words: that Op-Ed piece is essentially garbage.
Didn't have time to read your piece....(I have to get busy doing the job most Americans HATE....trimming my trees)...but I'm ASSUMING your piece is about Africans being hauled off in chains to the New World to be sold into slavery....you know, "one nation holding another nation in bondage.....exploiting their labor..ignoring their pain"....right.? I mean, it had BETTER be about African slavery.....and if so, what does slavery, bondage, and expoitation have to do with immigration.....legal or illegal?
How about asking individual state taxpayers how they feel about illegal immigration?
Say, Arizona's taxpayers - they might just tell you that they are not really too happy having to come up with $1.3 BILLION to cover the costs associated with those in the country illegally.
And, California taxpayers - I know they are not happy with the $6Billion PLUS bill they have to pay for illegals -
The author of the linked drivel is not apparent - would it possibly be written by the blowhard Ruben Navarette?
Loved the comments section on the piece though - for each person agreeing with the opinion piece, there are at least TEN who completely oppose it and are quite well-versed in their arguments.
...Really, the "Nation of Immigrants" jab does get a little wearisome, too. I mention it mostly out of habit, as its been pretty well 'beaten to death' before...apparently with no chance it will ever be corrected.
There are very few examples anywhere in the world of a "nation of immigrants"...and NONE of these ever lasted beyond a few brief years. Once immigrants START a nation, and produce offspring, those offspring are then 'native born'...and thus, any "nation of immigrants' quickly becomes a 'nation of people DESCENDED from immigrants"...and at that point, it becomes just like 99.9% of all the places on earth....virtually ALL of mankind are descendants of people who, at some time in the past, came from somewhere else.
No comment is needed here (thanks anyway), and there's absolutely no doubt this will be brought up again and again. But the US is NOT a nation of immigrants.
If they are treated that badly here, we must step up efforts to remove them from this abusive environment by returning them to their home countries.
I love what you said and thank you for that.
