It's funny... it looks like Maywood declared itself an illegal immigrant haven and got away with it! See: http://www.csmonitor.com/2006/0405/p01s03-ussc.html

Do you guys think the California and/or Federal authorities will take action? I wonder why Maywood openly declared itself as an illegal immigrant haven...

Maywood is a dense, mostly Hispanic city much like its sisters Bell and Cudahy.

Maywood is in LAUSD...

Elementary schools serving Maywood include:
* Fishburn Avenue Elementary School (Maywood)
* Heliotrope Elementary School (Maywood)
* Loma Vista Elementary School (Maywood)
* Maywood Elementary School (Maywood)
* Nueva Vista Elementary School (Bell)

Nimitz Middle School in Huntington Park and Bell High School in Bell serve secondary school students. Some portions of Maywood are jointly zoned to Bell High School and Huntington Park High School.

Maywood Learning Academy (9-12) opened in 2005.

Default Entire USA haven

The entire USA is a haven for illegals. The policy is backwards, want to come to the USA legally it will take forever and costs thousands. Illegally.... no problemo!

According to the Christian Science Monitor, Maywood does NOT tow cars of people who do not have driver's licenses. That is highly unsafe!

"In January, Maywood became the first municipality in California to declare itself a "sanctuary city." The city council, in effect, signalled its displeasure with legislation that had recently cleared the US House, voting to disregard the bill's call to classify illegal presence in the US as a felony and to enlist local police in enforcing federal immigration law. It also directed the city's police department to stop towing away cars of drivers who don't have driver's licenses - a practice it said unfairly targeted illegal immigrants."

Maywood is not alone.

Some of our nations largest cities have officially declared themselves, "Illegal Immigrant Havens." These are Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, New Haven, CT, NYC, and Portland, Maine.

Currently, illegals in Houston are pushing their mayor to declare "an illegal immigrant haven."

Why would this be unsafe?

Good, lets get them all rounded up in certain areas so they can be picked up and deported.

Well, unlicensed drivers may not meet state standards for driving automobiles, and may not be familiar with certain road signs seen on U.S. roads.

Also, in terms of property, uninsured driver = cost burden is on the victim

Yea, anyone driving without a license can be slightly to very dangerous. Deciding not to tow someone's car, because they don't have a driver's license, has nothing to do with it. How would it be unsafe to not tow someone's car? I completely agree with your second point, anyone without a license or insurance and gets an accident, is going to cause mucho problems for the victim. I.E.(Physical and Money Claims) But, I'm still unsure of how unsafe it would be to tow the car away of the driver without a license.
