Statement from Commissioner Basham and Chief David Aguilar
(06/25/2008)

On January 19, 2008, Border Patrol Agent Luis Aguilar was murdered by a suspected drug smuggler who subsequently fled to Mexico after the crime occurred. The suspect, Jesus Albino Navarro-Montes, was arrested on January 23, 2008, in Sonora, Mexico by Mexican authorities. He was then transferred to Mexicali, Baja California and incarcerated on Mexican charges pending criminal prosecution.

Yesterday, to our dismay, we learned that the suspect had been released from a Mexicali prison based on a judge’s orders last week. All of us are shocked that he is no longer in custody. Let us assure you, as we did Agent Aguilar’s family, that since learning of this we have been working with our Federal and Mexican law enforcement partners at the highest levels to ensure that every resource will be used to bring new charges and to bring the suspect back into custody and to ultimate justice.

Let us be absolutely clear in our outrage that the suspect is no longer behind bars. Although delayed, justice will not be denied for Luis and his family, and none of us will rest until Agent Aguilar’s killer is held accountable for his heinous and cowardly crime.

W. Ralph Basham
Commissioner

David V. Aguilar
Chief
U.S. Border Patrol

Disgusting but no surprise. There is no justice for this hero. As I watched the tape of him getting run down-it made me ill. He did not shoot because he did not want the fate of Ramos and Compean. Now in death we cannot even bring justice for Luis? No justice for any of the border guards or law enforcement people. Where is the justice for Ramos and Compean? Gilmer Hernandez and Gary Brugman? It is no surprise that Mexico drops the ball but our wimpy government back stabs our law enforcement in the back as well. Siding with criminal illegals. Just terrible.

Maybe the devil-Johnny Sutton got him released. Maybe he has a plea bargain to offer him.

This is why we need the military on our border until that fence goes up.
